Tornadoes
Tornadoes often develop from a class of thunderstorms known as supercells. Supercells contain mesocyclones, an area of organized rotation a few miles up in the atmosphere, usually 1–6 miles (2–10 km) across. Most intense tornadoes (EF3 to EF5 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale) develop from supercells. In addition to tornadoes, very heavy rain, frequent lightning, strong wind gusts, and hail are common in such storm.

A Disaster of a Tornado

On May 5,2007 in Greensburg , KS a EF5 hit the town. It took 15 minutes to wipe out the hole town. Today a tornado are hoping today now today. A EF3 tornado killed two people left 17.5 mile long. 12-1,0000 is died. The tornado left a trail of damage to the building and homes. A historic church in Jackson , Tennessee was heavily damage by a EF4 tornado in 2003.

What Causes a Tornado?

Tornadoes are most often spawned by giant thunderstorms known as "super cells." These powerful, highly organized storms form when warm, moist air along the ground rushes upward, meeting cooler, drier air. As the rising warm air cools, the moisture it carries condenses, forming a massive thundercloud, sometimes growing to as much as 50,000 ft. in height. Variable winds at different levels of the atmosphere feed the updraft and cause the formation of the tornado's characteristic funnel shape.
