In room 6 we have done gems. Gems are short, sharp sentences to make your writing more interesting. For example, write 'The smooth green grass' instead of 'The grass.'

Once upon a time there was a brown bear who lived in New Zealand Zoo in a cage. He was in a cage all by himself.
Once a mouse named Monty came to look at the zoo. But he is not a mouse. People call him Monty the Mouse because he had a nose like a mouse and he wants to be a mouse. So he is still a person though.
Monty had enough money to buy a bear. Monty called the brown bear Brownie and took him home.
What a sight! Monty’s mum was shocked at the huge, enormous, big bear.
“Aaahhh! Why did you bring this beast?” said Mum.
“Well can I keep him?” asked Monty.
“NO, no, no,” said Mum.
But Monty didn’t give up. Monty had enough money to buy a big cage. So he went to the zoo and bought a big cage. He promised to feed the bear every day and every night and to keep his cage clean.
So his mother said, “Yes, you can keep the bear for ever.”

Holly, wake up, we’re climbing a mountain. How did I get up here. I’m dizzy.
On Tuesday the Livewires climbed a mountain. It was called Maungatautari. When the Livewires went in the Livewires saw an electric wire on a slippery on a slippery curved end and a mesh. Under it had a slippery curved end so rabbits can’t get through. After that the Livewires saw kakariki birds. The Livewires saw two eggs or 3, well at least they are okay. Everybody got a turn. The Livewires saw tracking cards. People got stung. I didn’t get stung.
