We are Year 7 and 8 students, and we are learning how to blog, safely, effectively and meaningfully. This is a place of experimentation, trial and error and a place to bounce around ideas and techniques. In particular we are learning to: 1. express our opinions clearly; 2. use other sources appropriately, hyperlinking and quoting when necessary and giving credit for ideas, words and images that aren't our own; 3. see blogs as conversations, that nevertheless 4. are the culmination of a writing process that shows evidence of planning, thinking and editing.

Movies Vs Books

Article posted May 24, 2009 at 11:52 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 191

As every year goes on technology gets more complicated and people get more lazy, so I'm here to find out what's better "books" or "movies".

Books

History of book

Books have been around for centuries,  according to Wikipedia it first originated in 7th millennium BC and the 4th millennium BC... That's one heck of a long time ago.

In that time you couldn't just drive to Harvey Norman to get a printer, no, they had to write with their BARE HANDS!!! but there's good news though - only the publishers had to do it. But more bad news.. if you did a mistake YOU HAD TO RESTART ALL OVER AGAIN!!! And more bad news, if you wanted another copy of the book, you couldn't just scan it. No, no, no, no! You had to do it all OVER AGAIN!!!

People say the first books were "logo graphic" writing after that the syllabic and alphabetic writing emerged.

Books Now

Now if you compare people who read the book of the movie and the people who just watch the movie, there's a big difference. Although people still read books, more people just watch the movie.

MOVIES

How they work

Wikipedia said "A movie camera or video camera takes pictures very quickly, usually at 24 pictures (frames) every second. When a movie projector, a computer, or a television shows the pictures at that rate, it looks like the images on the screen are moving. Sound is either recorded at the same time, or added later. The sounds in a movie usually include the sounds of people talking (which is called dialogue), music (which is called the "soundtrack"), and 'Foley', the sounds of activities that are happening in the movie (such as doors opening or guns being fired)."

Genres

As we know there are dozens of types of movies, from comedy to romance to even animated and theirs even mixtures like romantic comedy and lots lots more.

If you want advice because you don't know what movie to watch here's some from a NZ vote.

For the World's vote.

For me movies are great, but I think I might just grab my book and start reading, because it is better for your mind than TV:).

What do you like better, movies or books?

Two children hit by a car

Article posted May 15, 2009 at 02:02 AM GMT0 • comment (4) • Reads 203

On Thursday 14th May two children were struck by a car and are now badly hurt in Palmerston North at 4pm.

Taranaki Daily News reported

"Eyewitness Millie Clegg, 15, said she was walking home from school when she saw the accident. Taranaki Daily News reported. Eyewitness Millie Clegg, 15, said she was walking home from school when she saw the accident. "The car hit them pretty hard. They went up in the air," she said. Both were taken to Taranaki Base Hospital by ambulance and were still in the intensive care unit Friday morning.Police said it was unlikely charges will be laid."

I wonder if  the two children looked when they crossed the road.

If you saw this accident what would you do?

swine flu sneezes back!

Article posted May 12, 2009 at 11:47 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 61

Swine influenza (also known as swine flu, hog flu or pig flu)it started in just Mexico but in just days it was in USA, New Zealand and to the UK, but as the time came to weeks it has come to 30 nations although it has only killed 2 dozen people all over the world.

CDC said "influenza A (H1N1) is a new flu virus of swine origin that was first detected in April, 2009. The virus is infecting people and is spreading from person-to-person, and has sparked a growing outbreak of illness in the United States with an increasing number of cases being reported internationally as well."

But as you look into the swine influenza it isn't as bad as the first time discoved it but as it gets into flu season it could get worse.

I think that the HINI isn't strong and its not as strong as the normal flu.

How would you react if you got the swine flu?

David Bain and his true or false statement

Article posted May 11, 2009 at 09:20 AM GMT0 • comment (7) • Reads 184

According to TVNZ news it has been 8 and a half weeks of going to court for David Bain since the killing of David Bains Mother, father, 2 sisters and his brother in Dunedin. Each time that Bain steps foot in Christchurch the court has been stacking up more information.

According to TVNZ news They also talk about now what David Bain said when he called 111, when they played the tape of the 111 call. Bain got questioned when he said “Help they’re all dead” When he had only seen 2 of the family members.

Now they are getting more information about Robin Bain of accusing murder. The judge has got some school principals who knew Robin Bain to the stand. The principals say Robin Bain smacked 2 children, but they say he could be under stress, they also say that he got less involved just a few days before the murder.

I think that Robin Bain killed the family because they have information that he was in a bad mood, had anger problems, hit 2 children witch is violent and some of Robin Bains students wrote murder storys according to the court.

Who really killed the family members? and why did he want to kill them?
