Pioneer Diary
August 1887

Dear Diary,

I left in May. There are snakes and scorpions and sagebrush and kids got lost. Our group decided to send scouts onto the Burial Trial, delaying the group. Sending scouts ahead was a bad idea, because I got trapped. I could not send my three year old daughter. Well at least, I thought about sending my wife, her name is Lavina Wright. After, the scouts got back with barely their lives we decided to take the Cheyenne Trail. It was better luck then the burial grounds group. They to have to drop two hundred pounds of stuff to make a run for it. The Cheyenne River Trail had all the water, but there were puddles of water on spots of the Burial Grounds Trail, so we could probably get stuck.

It was not a bad idea for the Cheyenne River Trail, but it was a bad idea to go on the Burial Ground Trail. We would cross secret grounds, and that would not be a good idea.
My two oxen will pull our wagon. The two cows will just be right next to the wagon in case we need the milk to put it underneath the wagon so when the wagon bounces a lot we will have our butter. My eight chickens might die, we will have to eat them. There are seven other people, and their names are Sam and Francie Conrad, Nate Page, Paul and Ruby Bryant, and Walter and Kathleen Sanders and that’s it.

I am thankful that we have moms and dads. Cows and bears and ducks and fish. Corn and beds and peps and cats. Dogs and pops and cars.

Freshwater Eco System

Many plants and animals live in lakes and rivers. A wetland is a low land that is covered by water for at least part of the year. Trees, grasses and water plants live there. Animals such as fish, bears, and birds live there too.

The Spring Peeper Frog makes a peep sound. It makes the sound while it sits in a hole. The frog is brown to tan with a dark “X” on it. They are bigger as tadpoles because they have a tail then. They lose their tail when they get older. They lay hundreds of eggs in the water.

Muskrats live in freshwater and saltwater. Muskrats build dome shaped houses. Muskrats are excellent swimmers. They live in North America.
