Trout

Brook, brown, rainbow,
Many kinds of trout
Living in rivers, lakes, and streams
Hiding in weeds and rocks
Scared of humans
Swimming up stream to lay eggs

Pioneer Diary

Pioneer Diary
August 23, 1844
Dear Diary,
Wagon train three has had a couple of frontier fates. My Name is Tony Wilson. We took the Cheyenne River trail. We thought it would be better than the burial grounds trail because there would be more water but it would be a longer way. Wagon train three decided that we should take the Cheyenne river. Earlier in the trip we did not have enough water so we went to prairie wells and maybe about a mile away I could se at least five white men in black suits holding guns guarding the water. When we got there we asked for water and they said we half to pay for it so we said we don’t have any money so we waited till dark and we fought them and the girls would load the water while the men would fight them. About one day after that are wheels kept falling off so we cut down fresh trees and they got dry and then they kept falling off so we just had to deal with it till we could find some trees. I think when we cross the next river something bad is going to happen. So far on the trail we have not had nearly as much bad luck as we’re going to have.

Tony Wilson.

Johnny Appleseed

Article posted February 13, 2009 at 04:25 PM GMT0 • comment (2) • Reads 156

When he was one year old his father went to war. He had 11 family members. Jon was different then other people. He wore different clothes and he wore a pot on his head. You don’t see much people wearing pots on their heads do you?
Jon felt more at home in the outdoors than at the farm house. He traveled the country planting apples and he met many settlers and they became friends with Jon He told the children stories about Paul Bunyan and the blue ox.
Jon was an apple grower. He grew millions of apples. He moved to the west when he was about 18 years old. He only had a rifle, a pot he wore on his head, a hatchet and a bag of food with a potato, a loaf of bread but he had no shoes.
Jon lived in the woods and after awhile he felt that the animals were part of his family. Some of the settlers said that his feet were so tough that a snake could not bite through them.
I feel that Jon was a very good man. If we didn’t have Jon Appleseed we wouldn’t have as much apples as we do now. He past away in old age He never had a wife or children.
