Hawaii
Water, land,
Swimming, sweating, burning,
I love Hawaii,
The Aloha state Hawaii.

Pioneer Dairy

August 23 1844

We decided to go the Cheyenne River way. I think it was a good way to go because it has a lot of water. There’s also an animal. And animals mean meat. And Anna burned her hands. I lost my daughter when she wandered off to pick flowers. Good thing we found her she could have died. And before any of this happened we had to fight for water. We also had a grass fire. 3 of our wagon wheels fell off. Some one on another wagon train got bit by a scorpion that was in his shoe. We also had to cross a river and pick a way to go. Another wagon train lost of there some of there livestock. There wagon trains were also running out of water. I fished in the river we crossed. But I did not catch anything. I also hunted but did not shoot anything. I think I’ll go hunting tonight and shoot something. I might fish at the river coming up and catch one.

Milton Hershey

Article posted February 19, 2009 at 07:17 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 97

Milton invented Hershey chocolate in the early 1900s. By selling his 5 cent chocolate bars it became a big business. The first few times he tried selling he failed and didn’t give up. Milton was born in 1857 in a stone farmhouse in Derry Township, Pennsylvania. When Milton was a kid his favorite candy was sourballs. They were so big they made his checks bulge.

People called his father Henry Hershey, a dreamer. His father loved to read. Milton was like his father. Milton hated his job. Milton got a new job after he got fired. His new job was at a candy shop. His family thought he was a failure. But Milton still would not give up making candy.

Some one from England wanted to start a Carmel candy shop after he tried one of Milton’s. A banker gave Milton $700. But Milton had to pay the bank back. The banker put his name down.

Pretty soon people from all over the world started eating Milton’s Carmel candy. He married some one he called Kitty. Kitty died in 1918. Milton died on October 13, 1945 when he turned 88.

He built a town called Hershey, Pennsylvania. He built a golf course, zoo and a park for his workers. He also built a fire station in the town. He also made schools and churches.
