Forensic Science

Article posted September 26, 2012 at 06:09 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 90

For National Science Week, Mr Lewis (a scientist) and his assistance came to our school to tell us a bit about Forensic Science. I found out that I have 5 whorls and 5 loops.

1.Fingerprints are very important in investigations to discover the culprit.
2.There are three different types of finger prints.
3.Everybody has a different fingerprint.
4. Identical twins do not have the same prints even though they're identical.
5. Investigators look at fine details to tell the difference in fingerprints. Things like scars make it easier for investigators to make out your print.
6. The most common fingerprints in our class are whorls and loops.

Assembly

Article posted September 21, 2012 at 06:34 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 20

My lines in the assembly was:
There are many stories which reflect the Olympic spirit and reflect our Oberthur virtues. Derek Redmond was racing in the 400m in Barcelona, his father was in the stands cheering him on. After a good start, Derek had to stop with a badly torn hamstring. He knew he had to finish so with 100m left, he began hopping. Then he suddenly felt a supportive hand on his shoulder of his father helping him finish his 4 year dream.

What I enjoyed the slow-motion running with the music the best because it was funny when the competitors tried to trip each other. I liked the whole assembly and though it was very interesting and informative.

It would have been better if we could make the assembly longer but we had to fit it in 15 minutes.

Queenie

Article posted August 2, 2012 at 11:39 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 28

Queenie was an Indian elephant transported to the Melbourne Zoo. She was 6 years old when she arrived at the Melbourne Zoo in 1902. She started giving elephant rides in 1905 when she was 9 years old. She carried around 500 passengers a day around the concert circuit of Melbourne Zoo for 40 years. She died in 1945. She was gentle and patient but accidentally crushed her keeper William Lawson in 1944. She stopped giving rides in 1944 and was put to sleep because there wasn't enough food for her due to World War II and she killed Mr Lawson.

English 2012 Term 1+2
I believe that I have a couple of weaknesses in English. I would need to work on my Creative Writing by using a larger vocabulary of words and work on my paragraph structure. I am strong in getting my work done on time although it may not receive me a high mark as English is nto my strong subject. My focus area and goal for Term 3+4 would definitely be using more literacy devices and a wider range of vocabulary. I would rate myself a 6 out of 10 as I am not very good at Creative Writing.

Mathematics 2012 Term 1+2
I believe that I am quiet strong in my mathematics because i get the work set done quickly and neatly. I do things without the teacher having to repeat herself over and over again for those who were not paying attention. Another strength is the mental math test. My main weakness is my times tables as I don't get them all correct when we do our test. I need to work on getting them all right working at an average speed rather than getting a couple wrong doing it quickly and rushing it. I would rate myself 8 1/2 out of 10 because I think I am very strong in Mathematics and get my work done.

Term 1

Article posted May 1, 2012 at 10:05 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 73

My number 1 best accomplishment during Term 1 must have been learning about squared numbers and square roots. At first I had no idea what squared numbers were but in Term 1 Mrs Taylor taught us all about squared numbers and square roots so we all knew our squared number from 1-12 off by heart. My three goals for Term 2 would have to be getting my spellings and spelling words done quicker, remembering to do my class duties/jobs and including more Literacy devices in my writing. I would like to study about the culture of different countries and maybe even cooking something traditional from the country. I would like to study this because I think it is interesting to learn how other people living this same planet live life. People in different countries wear different clothes, speak different languages and eat different foods. It would be a fun and interesting subject.
