Heart Failure:The Road to Death!!!

Article posted May 17, 2011 at 11:49 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 1529

A deadly disease with only one cure. A cure that is hard and may not be successful. That came after an injury that weekend your heart, you might make you might not. You are in a matter of life and death!!
Cardiovascular System
There are many cells in your body. The word cell (se-ll-a) comes from the Latin word cella, which means small room. Each cell has a different size and shape depending on its job. Many cells working together make a tissue. An example of a tissue is a muscle. When many tissues work together they make an organ. Your heart is an organ.
Did you know that over 5 million Americans get heart failure every year??
When many organs work together they make a system, an example of the system would be the digestive system. Many systems that work together make you! The circulatory or cardiovascular system is the system that you have a problem with. It consists of the heart, blood, and vessels. The heart is the main pump of the system. It pumps blood around the body. There are four chambers in the heart, two arteries and two ventricles. The ones on the bottom are the ventricles, and the ones on the top are the arteries. The vessels are the roads. The blood transports oxygen (ox-e-jen) and food to the cells, and takes away carbon dioxide (kar-bon-di-ox-ide) which it exchanges in the lungs for oxygen. There are many types of vessels. There are arteries (art-er-ies), veins (vai-ens), and capillaries (cap-ill-aries). Veins carry
deoxygenated or blue blood to the heart. Arteries take oxygenated (ox-i-jen-ate-ed) or red blood away from the heart. Capillaries connect the veins and arteries. So the oxygen and nutrients diffuse (di-if
f-use) into the cells. The largest artery is the aorta (ae-or-ta), it is big enough for your entire finger to fit. The heart pumps the blood then the blood goes to the lungs to pick up oxygen then it enters the heart then goes to the body to give oxygen and gather carbon dioxide, afterwards goes to the heart, from there it goes to the lungs to exchange the carbon dioxide for oxygen. Then it goes all over again.
Circulatory system
Symptoms of Heart Failure:
Heart failure has a number of symptoms. They could include shortness of breath or swelling of hands and feet, coughing and white or pink blood coming out. You will not be able to concentrate well, sudden gain of weight nausea (na-see-ya), and you will find it difficult to exercise. Yomay also get chest pain if it is caused by heart attack. If you heart failure you may die.
Did you know that you can get heart failure from eating too much salt and drinking too much water??
What is The Problem?
Systolic (sis-to-lik) heart failure is when your heart has difficulties pumping blood, because it cannot contract. If you think it is horrible there is one that is worse, the diastolic (di-a-sto-lik) heart failure. This means your heart muscles are stiff, and cannot relax to let blood get out.
The most common type of heart failure is the chronic heart failure. Over time many other conditions like, coronary artery disease will make the heart too weak to function properly and pump blood. You usually get heart failure on both sides of your heart. Though you can sometimes be lucky and get it on only one side. It has a very big effect on your circulatory system. When the heart does not pump enough blood to exceed the bodies needs or any blood at all what will deliver the blood?
How Can You Get Heart Failure?
You can get this disease if you have or had an infection that weekend your heart. For example: A heart attack (hart-att-ak) means that your coronary arteries are blocked) a heart valve disease (val-ve-dis-es), and cardiovascular disease (car-dio-vas-q-lar-dis-ees). If you have an infectioin or injury in your heart, and you drink water and eat salt together or at the same time you may get heart failure. It is most likely for old people to get though young people can get it too.
How Do You Cure Heart Failure?
You cannot really cure a heart failure. The only way to solve the problem is heart transplantation. Medication can be provided but only to stop it from getting worse. If you would like, I have listed some drugs that may help.
Did you know that in the old days pharmacists would chop up a foxglove plant to help a patient with “heart trouble”?
There is Diuretics which is known as water pills. It signals the kidney to produce more urine so the body can get rid of the waste that is backed up in the lungs, feet, and arms. This reduces the swelling of arms and feet. If you got heart failure because of drinking too much water and salt, a diuretic helps, because your body cannot digest the water with salt .So when the kidney produces more urine the water gets out. Another drug named Digitalis which is found in the Foxglove plant. What Digitalis does is it makes the heart beats stronger. You also have Hydralazine, Parzosin, and Nitroglycerin.
Conclusion
Heart failure is a deadly disease you don’t want to get. If you had an injury you might get it. It is very hard to cure which is why it is deadly.

The Relief

Article posted April 5, 2011 at 10:27 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 2352

Mrs. Branch is a one of a kind principle. Have never seen her mad or yelling at anyone. She is very respectful and calm and peaceful.
She makes learning fun. By organizing assemblies and circles and marches and much more fun.
I woke up one morning and I had to get ready for my first day of elementary school. I was so excited!! My dad took my sister and I to school. When I climbed out of the car, I saw my new principle Mrs. Branch outside greeting whoever passed by. She was tall had short hair and looked about 20.”What if she turned out to be mean? What if she yelled at me for not wearing a PE uniform like the rest started to wonder.
But when I came past her she smiled at me and said:”good morning!!”
“Good morning” I replied.
“Whew!”I thought
She was actually really nice!
Sadly, she is leaving ACS .how will school be like without her? Will she change her mind and stay??

Reforestation of Lebanon

Article posted April 5, 2011 at 10:27 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 853

Lebanon has some trees but not many. There are many that cut trees and never plant them back. This is not good. Not only for the environment but for themselves too!

Imagine the world without trees! Think of the weather!!!How hot it will be! No trees to give you shade! You would have to stay at home all summer long with the AC on.
How will children play?? No more woods that’s for sure. Parks without trees is boring. Nothing to climb anywhere anymore!!! And the animals will all be extinct!!!Chocolate is a plant in case you don’t know. No plants=no chocolate and no food=to death=http://All farmers need soil. The roots of a tree stops fertile soil from going into a river!!!How will you get crops=http://

The world would be an awful place to live in with no trees. So please don’t cut trees plant them instead!!!!It’s for your own good. This advice is not only for Lebanon but also for every other country in the earth!!

My Heart Dissection

Article posted April 1, 2011 at 12:06 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 918

Grade 5 is awesome! There are so many cool things you get to do!!!! This time it was dissecting a sheep’s heart!! Mrs. Salem dissected the heart and lungs for us as part of wrapping up our unit on the circulatory system.

I loved touching the heart, turns out it’s not as gooey as you think. It actually is hard, because it is a muscle. It was also fun seeing Mrs. Salem blow into the trachea which leads to the lungs inflated and deflated. Then she cut some of the fatty tissue surrounding the heart it just slipped out. She showed us the heart we got to touch it, and put our finger in the aorta, it I s big enough to put your entire finger inside.
I put my finger in, it was like touching pasta! Then there came the BEST part of all. Dissecting the hearts by ourselves! Well, in groups. I was with Maurice, Mahmoud, and Alaa. I got to cut through the septum and cut the cordites. Turns out the valves are tiny=http://!!!

It was great! Except for maybe the smell it was bad. It smelled like blood and hospitals and raw meat!!!!Other than that, it was amazing. Some of my classmates were disgusted, but I was not.
That experiment just made want to be a doctor even more. So what if I have to study 12 extra years? It is worth it=http://!!

The Moment Of Honesty

Article posted March 28, 2011 at 10:47 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 849

I was at my house playing tag with my bother he was ‘it’. He was chasing me around the house the only way to escape was by going into the dining room. I ran with him following me. Just then I saw my mom’s vase fall onto the ground with a loud CRASH!!! That echoed through the house. MY mom came in and looked at the broken glass and asked: “what is going on in here?????” I thought for a moment “we were playing tag and I accidently dropped it.” Admitted.

“Well ok then, now go and stay away from the broken glass, “She said. I could tell that it was not going to be pleasant. But it was better than blaming my brother. That was one of my honest moments.

Everyone's Sick!

Article posted March 28, 2011 at 10:46 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 926

My mom is sick

My brother too

My sister’s face is already blue.

Me not really, two days ago it’s true

But look at me,

I am good as new!

After all those days of sneezing and coughing

Now look at me

Smiling and laughing!

I have to admit

I am kind of jealous

Of my sister and brother staying home

And, eating popcorn.

Please Give Us Less Homework!!!!!

Article posted March 28, 2011 at 10:34 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 126

I think teachers give too much homework! Why???Well here are the reasons:
Kids need to have time to them. They have hang with family and friends. They need time for everything.
We already do it in class! No need for all of that!! How do you know if the parents do the work or not .it is useless?
Why bother yourself???you need to spend the time you do on correcting homework for sitting down spending time with your family and friends. Plus you work all day .which is very tiring so you need to rest
See how the WORLD can change when teachers give less homework??? There is a bright side for students and teachers!
