Happy 29th Blog!!

Aunt Bee leaves for Mount Pilot after her Cousin Edgar calls to tell her that her cousin, Maude has taken ill. While she's gone, Andy and Opie have made a mess of the house. Andy decides to let Bee's friend, Bertha help get the house back in order before Bee returns. Andy, then realizes that Bee's feelings will be hurt if she thinks they don't need her and he tells Opie to mess the place up again. When Bee discovers the mess she feels needed.

How important is it for people to feel needed?
Was there ever a time when you felt that you were not needed? How did that feel?

Aunt Bee decides the courthouse is not a positive atmosphere for Opie to be hanging around. Andy goes along with Bee's wishes until Opie wanders off and turns up miles away in another town. After his return, Bee agrees that father and son are better off together than apart.

Do you think a negative atmosphere can influence a child to do things that he or she should not do? Explain.

Runaway Kid

Article posted March 30, 2007 at 06:17 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 398

In this episode we learn the important lesson of trust, and keeping your word. After teaching Opie a lesson about the importance of always keeping your word, Andy found himself in a tough spot. Opie made a sacred trust not to tell anyone that his new friend, George "Tex" Foley, was a runaway. Andy struggled with violating Opie's trust and helped return the boy to his family. In doing so, he had to explain that there are exceptions to every rule.

As you know I'm a big believer in trust and character. There's an old saying that goes something like, "A person is only as good as their word."

Explain what that phrase means.
Use examples in your answer.

Opie's Charity

Article posted March 23, 2007 at 04:32 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 194

Andy scolds Opie after learning he's saving money to buy his girlfriend a present after he donates a total of 3 cents to the Underpriviledged Children's Drive. Later, Andy discovers the truth, that Opie's girlfriend is underprivileged and he is buying her a winter coat because her mom doesn't have the money.

Andy is embarrassed and ashamed of Opie when he thinks Opie doesn't have compassion for those who don't have as much as they do. Opie proves that he does have a huge heart in the end.

Without using names, write about the most recent thing you did to show compassion to another human being.

In this week's episode, an appreciative Gomer is willing to do anything to show his gratitude for Andy's saving his life. While Gomer's heart is in the right place, he proceeds to make a pest of himself.

Think back to a time when you owed someone a favor or perhaps someone owed you a favor. Was the favor repaid?

Barney learns a valuable lesson about spreading rumors in this episode when he spots Andy and Helen in a jewelry store and tells people that they are getting married.

Use the information you learned from the story, Mr. Peabody's Apples by Madonna and this episode to explain how rumors damage others and about how hard it is to change a rumor once it is started.

In this episode Barney brags about his wilderness skills to Andy, Gomer, Opie and his friends, when he really didn't have any skills.

Why do you think Barney would brag about something that he knew wasn't true?

Why do people brag about themselves and how do others feel about people who brag?
