We were excited to receive a box from the Brainwaves today. We had arranged to do a toy exchange with them but we didn't know what they were sending us. We wondered what (or who) would come out of the box when we opened it.

When the Livewires visited the Waikato Museum we found this machine that needed a lot of manpower to get it working.
What do you think the machine is doing?
What is the purpose of the machine?
Let us know your thoughts about this unusual machine.

Our end of year school concert featured items by each class as well as school singing and the Year 6 students farewell. The Livewires performed our version of the Where The Wild Things Are. Why pay to go to the movies when you can watch Where The Wild Things Are right here on our blog!

The Livewires had a busy, exciting and exhausting time on camp. We stayed in tents at school - the field turned into a tent city. Some people got a good night's sleep but a lot of children had a late night and an early morning! Our day trip was to Hamilton. We went to the Waikato museum where we learned how to do harakeke (flax weaving) and we had fun with the hands-on science activities. After lunch we did indoor rock climbing. Some people looked very nervous when they first saw the the walls they had to climb. But everyone took on the challenge and some people even got to the top of the walls.

We were very excited to meet some of our friends in Russia through Skype. It was 9pm in New Zealand and all of the Livewires and some of their parents were at school to take part in the Skype session. It was 3 pm in Aban where our blog partners are.
We learnt a lot about each other by sharing questions and answers. The Livewires noticed that the Russian flag has the same colours as the New Zealand flag, that Russian and New Zealand children like ice-cream and we all were amazed at the beautiful snowy scene outside the window in Aban.

The Livewires have worked on a very big project - a challenge involving about 38 classes around the world. Each class built a monster using descriptions contributed by all of the classes. It needed a lot of cooperation, creativity, patience and problem solving to complete the monster that we named Einkinstein.
Click on the link at the left to see all of the monsters and to learn more about The Monster Project.

Today was our school Agriculture Day. Many children brought their pets to school to be judged. They have been raising and training lambs, calves and kids and were judged on their leading, calling, rearing, obstacle course and dairy type. They receive coloured ribbons for their placings in each class. We had lots of visitors to our school as parents, grandparents and other family members and friends came to support the young farmers. It was great to see how well trained, groomed and cared for the animals are - congratulations on all your successes Livewires.

We use greetings in about 12 different languages in our class. Recently we have been learning to say hello (and goodbye) in Russian. Here are some of the Livewires practising their pronunciation. We also speak in Maori so you can also hear the greetings in a language that is unique to New Zealand. Perhaps our Russian friends could let us know if we are saying the words correctly!
