In paragraphs, discuss the impacts of human activities on the continental landscape.
The Amazon Basin is located in the South American continent and extends as far North and South of the Guiana and Brazilian Highlands and as far East and West of the Amazon Delta and the Andes mountains. The human activities that affect the landscape are farming, mining and forestry. These activities can affect the landscape in different ways.
Farming is one activity that can have devastating effects on the Amazon Basin depending on the scale of the farms. For example, ranchers are large scale farmers who have had a devastating impact on the Amazon Basin because they have burnt huge areas of the rainforest, overgrazed their cattle and used huge amounts of fertiliser. The over grazing has meant that soils have been compacted increasing the exposure to rainfall and consequently increases soil erosion. This increases siltation in rivers, upsetting fluvial processes. The use of fertilisers has meant that….
This is compared to the subsistence farming and hunting and gathering of the Boro and _____ tribes. These activities affect the landscape, however because it is so small…
Over farming has a very negative impact on the AB because it takes away the nutrients in the soil and the whole eco-system is affected. It takes a very long time to rebuild the eco-system and therefore destroys the AB in the long run.
Mining is another activity that has devastating effects on the AB because some mining projects have been abandoned and remain, polluting the environment. For example the Carras project, established in the 1980s cleared huge areas of land fro an open cast iron mine. This had a negative impact on the AB because….

First of all, sorry for not warning you that I would be away today. I completely forgot!
Anyway, today I was on a Geography course with Mr Talbot. We were learning about Yr 13 Geography and all the different ways that we could teach it. I definately learnt a lot and am looking foward to applying what I have learnt to my level 2 class actually.
It was really good learning more from other teachers and finding out what they are doing. Some even want to come and learn how to use blogging with their students!! cool eh!
anyway - thanks for being great kids while I was away, and especially to those who handed in their homework. Well done!
See you on Monday
