The ski trip

Article posted March 5, 2012 at 08:41 PM GMT0 • comment (2) • Reads 347

On Saturday, March 3rd, I went on my very first ski trip. It was a school trip so anyone who wanted to go from grade 7-12 was allowed. Six kids from grade 7&8 went. There was Carolea, Kayla, Keith, Cole, Miranda, Tyson and I went. The ski trip was in Fort Qu’Appelle, so we left the school at around 6:00 am and stopped at Tim Horton’s in Regina for a refreshment break, and then kept going. When we got there, we got a bench to put some of our stuff by, and then went in line to get some equipment. Since we got there at around 9:00, there was not a big line. We first got our boots, then our skis or snowboards and our helmets. After that we got our ski lift tickets. I went to take ski lessons first with Carolea, Miranda, Cathryn, and Kayla because we could kind of use them. Then we had to go down the bunny hills a few times first so we could prove ourselves to the coaches/teachers. I went on the ski lift by myself the first time and was freaked out! It kept stopping and mad weird creaky sounds. When I got off I went down the easy hill first and it was really fun. I went on with Kayla and then Amy and after a while I went down the black diamond with Cathryn, Miranda, Carolea, and Tyson. And even though I was in snow-plough position, it was really fun. I think I will go again next year!

33-Pretty Girl. My soon to be Heifer

Article posted May 12, 2011 at 05:56 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 290

My mom and my dad got some heifers a while ago when winter was starting- (2010). My dad and I would feed them grain/chop and soon it became my job. I would give them a couple pails of chop every morning. There were thirteen of them, still with their old ear tags in and no brisket tags yet, for they were too young yet. I loved twelve of them but there was one that was kind of snotty and I did not like her very much.
I did love them all, but there was one that kind of stuck out a bit and I liked her just that much more. She let me pet her more than any other of the heifers would and her number on her ear tag was 33. 33 is one of my favourite numbers; what a coincidence! She is a light brownish-reddish, and orangish with long, long black eyelashes.
Now, in the spring, it is getting warmer and she is still my favourite. Since it is getting warmer, I go out there by the barn and curry her. Curry means to brush her and shed some fur from her so that she is not so hot.
My mom and dad say that I may buy her from them to have my own heifer calf next year, but I was planning on kind of buying her, but not have her have a calf - yet anyways. I was planning on maybe taking good care of her and then entering her in 4-H or something. That probably won't happen though, but it would be nice. I am excited and Dad said he'll give a deal and by the sounds it is a BIG deal. When my calf sells this October, I will get some money and Buy Pretty Girl-33 for about 700 dollars. My dad says that she's really worth about 1,000 dollars! So I get a big deal of about 300 dollars.
I really love her and still call her nicknames like 33, Pretty Girl, Girly, but I am trying to think of a name for her.

My Health Plan

Article posted April 6, 2011 at 05:35 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 330

A while ago our whole classroom (including the teacher) made a health plan. We made a health plan to help us get the propper amount of servings for different food groups, to get more of a nutrient, or to pick a healthier lunch or snack. My health plan was to chose healthier snacks and meals for me to eat that I have control over. We started April 4th and we will end April 9th. Our check-in day was on April 6th and that is today. For the check-in day we are going to write about how our plan is working so far, what our absticles are, and how we plan to improve.

My Results So Far
On Monday I kind of failed my plan. For my breakfast, I was supposed to have an apple or some kind of fruit. I didn't have any fruit. For my snack, I was supposed to have a granola bar and I didn't. But, I did have my correct lunch. I was to have a meat or/& a grain product and I had rice and pork.
In Tuesday, I basically passed in my plan. For breakfast I was supposed to have oatmeal/cereal or fruit. I had a bannana and mango smoothie. For my snack I was suppoesed to have a fruit cup and I did. But, for a late night snack if I wanted somthing, I was supposed to have toast, but we went out and I had a piece of cake.
Today, I believe that I will bassically pass because I did fail of having the propper breakfst that I planned on, but I packed the propper snack and for lunch I am to have what is planned.

My Obsticles
I had obsticles for everyday so far.
On Monday, my obsticle was that I forgot over the weekend. I don't think I can fixe that obsticle because we are only doing this for one Monday which is after the weekend.
My obsticle for Tuesday was that I was going out that night and my ayntie bought me a dessert so I ate it. That obsticle I don't think I can fixe very well because I only will go out one night while we are having the health plan.
My obstycle today however, is that I was at my Grandma's house and I didn't remember what I had put for today's breakfast. I can help that by putting my schedule in my bookbag to help my remember.
I sure hope that I do a bit better later this week than I did so far.

My Cat Eden

Article posted March 31, 2011 at 10:00 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 95

I have a cat named Eden. Like Star, I still like to think of Eden as a kitten though because she is still small and I think I will always think of her as a little kitten. Eden is black with white and orange on her.
Eden was born in a batch of a lot of kittens but then somthing happened and I don't want to type that. When she was only about not even a week old, somthing happened to her brothers and sisters (what I don't want to type) so we moved Eden, her older sister Star, and her moma cat Maggy into the garage. Eden, Star, and Maggy lived in the garage for about three to four months. After about three to four months, they had to get moved into the barn. Now that it is winter, their water in their water bowl freezes, so when we go out there and give them new fresh water, Eden always runs so hard to the water dish and drinks almost all of it up!
I love Eden sooo much!

My Cat Star

I have a cat named Star. I still kind of like to think of her as a kitten because she is not quite full grown yet and she is still like my little kitten. Star is orange with some lighter stripes of orange on her. She used to live in the garage with her mom Maggy and her little sister Eden, But now she lives in the barn, still with Maggy and Eden. I love her sooo much!

The Cow and its Head

Article posted March 22, 2011 at 10:09 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 322

One time there was a cow that stuck its BIG DARN DUMB head in the hay feeder and got stuck. A hay feeder is like a big long trailer with bales in it and has metal bars so the cows can pull some hay out to eat. Well, the BIG DARN DUMB COW stuck its head through the metal bars in the small part and got it stuck. My dad wasn't able to very well pull the cow out so he had to cut the bars out so he could get the cow out. Hope that doesn't happen again!

Tina and Timothy

Article posted March 16, 2011 at 06:04 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 269

Tina and Timothy are twin calves. They are both very tiny, that is why I named them like so. Timothy’s getting bigger though. He is bigger than Tina and still is tiny, so that makes Tina very tiny. Tina in fact, is so tiny, that I can pick her up and run around with her like she is a cat. Tina and Timothy are a dark chocolate brown and Tina has a little white marking on her head. Timothy’s nickname is Timmy.
Tina and Timmy’s mother was a heifer, and she does not have enough milk for her two calves. We put other cows in the head-gate so then they can suck from them. Now that they get a lot of milk from other cows, Timothy and Tina are getting bigger and plumper. Timothy is too heavy to lift up now, but Tina is still pretty simple to lift.
I love Tina and Timothy sooo much, but come this October, as usual, mom and dad will sell all of the calves to the feedlot and then in one year the will get butchered and sold to local stores for hamburger and stuff. So, I guess I ought to spend good time with them while I can.

The Dead Cow by our House

Article posted February 28, 2011 at 04:52 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 238

There is a dead cow in our field by the house. It was going to have its fifth calf this March, so it wasn't even that old.
My mom and I went out to the field and saw like a million coyote tracks. Some were so huge, about as big as the palm of my hand! There are about five coyotes left and my dad already shot one.
When we got there, the cow was bloated, and had no head, neck, and the hide was torn off of lots of its body.
This morning before school my mom was in bed and I looked out her window and there was a great big coyote in our yard! It was watching all of the other coyotes eating the cow. My mom said that it was not in the same pack as the other ones that were eating the cow and it wishes it was so it could eat it also.
My mom says that she can hardly wait for my dad to get back so he can shoot the coyotes. She does not really know how to run the gun and my mom does not like it when I shoot it so we ought to wait for dad.

My Letter From Ranna

Article posted January 25, 2011 at 05:31 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 351

A little while ago I recieved a letter from my friend Ranna.  Ranna is from Louisianna.  In grade one Ranna and her little brother Coy had to come and live with her grandparents on a ranch near Bengough.  They had to stay here for about a year and come to school at Bengough because Huricane Katrina went by their land and her parents had to stay and rebuild thier house and barn.  Ranna went back to Louisianna almost at spring though.  Every summer Ranna, Coy, and her new BIG little brother come down to Bengough and I go to spend the day/night.
This summer I asked her when her birthday was and I remembered without writing it down. It is November 24th so I sent her a letter.  About a week ago her Grandma Joan asked, ``Did you get the letter yet?'' ``What letter'' my mom asked ``Ranna mailed a letter about a month ago.''  And sure enough when my mom picked up the mail that day, there was a shredded envelope that had been taped back together.  When I Opened it there was a letter saying thanks for the birthday card, a green and purple swirly pencil, chopsticks, and a picture.  The picture was of her; she had won barrel racing!  She had won a saddle, a shirt, and a belt. I think that she deserved it, because she is very good.
