Choose 1 of the major characters that we discussed in class: Liesel, Max, Hans Hubermann, Rosa Hubermann, Ilsa Hermann, Rudy.

In a well-written paragraph response (no less than 5 sentences), describe what you believe the "theme song" for this character would be. Justify your answers with concrete examples from the text and sound reasoning.

Please include the full title and name of the artist of the song.

"Oedipus the King"

Article posted October 27, 2009 at 11:25 PM GMT0 • comment (19) • Reads 1494

As we near the end of our reading of "Oedipus the King," I want you to continue to think about the recurring themes of blindness and prophecy. For this assignment, you need to use your imagination, so get those creative wheels turning...

Pretend that you are a therapist or counselor. Today you've had a rough day, as you had to cousel two very complex patients. For each patient, write a dialogue between yourself and the your client that follows the guidelines below. Each dialogue should equal 1/2 page. You will be graded on grammar, content and effort. I would recommend that you write your dialogues in Word, and then cut/paste them into the Article box.

1. Tiresias: The great prophet has sought out your advice because he is having trouble dealing with King Oedipus. The King has pushed Tiresias too far by accusing him of treachery and mocking his blindness. Tiresias opens up to you about his blindness, as well as his powers of prophecy. Your dialogue should discuss Tiresias' view of blindness, and his opinion on Oedipus' "blindness."

2. Jocasta: The Queen of Thebes is having trouble in her marriage. She is older and wiser (she thinks) than her young husband Oedipus. She is concerned that Oedipus is becoming increasingly influenced by the prophets. She talks to you at length about her past, and you try to calm her down.

Answer the following questions in 1-paragraph each.

2. Describe the multi-layered tone of Arthur's letter at the end of Chapter 24. Use your Tone Word List, and justify your answers with specific details from the text.
