Our 4th grade class trip to BrainPop was awesome! The trip was about how they actually make BrainPop’s games, movies, and art. I got to meet different people who all had interesting jobs.

My favorite part of the BrainPop field trip is that we got to make a storyboard.

A storyboard is like a script off a movie they made. It was very fun to use my abilities and be creative. The storyboard was really really fun.

What surprised me was the offices in the building were so quiet. I literally think that you could hear a pin drop. I thought the office would have some talking and activity with people sharing ideas, but that was not what I saw or heard.

That was the surprising part of the field trip for me. I really enjoyed going on a field trip to BrainPop. I had a great time exploring all the different jobs the people had. I loved this field trip!

I just read a great blog called Ballet by Natalie. Natalie said “ Dancing especially ballet, is not I repeat is not for sissies.” I agree that ballet is not for kids that are looking an easy after school activity. You have to believe in yourself. Ballet is hard work! Natalie also said “ People may think of dance as a bunch of girls frolicking around in pink tutus if this is the case for you than you don’t understand dance at all. I attend dance and I agree, kids should not be frolicking, and being a distraction because some kids are at class to learn and improve their skill. One day in my dance class there was this girl with a pink tutu that would never stop flitting around. She was jumping up and down and not being respectful of the teacher. I was so annoyed, the teacher talked to her after class and I know, she will not be a distraction in class any longer. Another thing I agree that Natalie said in her story was “Ballerina’s have to be immensely strong to go on pointe.” Dance is as much a sport as any other sport and dancers should be considered athletes as well. Ballet requires many hours of practice and discipline. My sister Tara, is on pointe shoes and she is immensely strong. I am also a ballerina and I am working hard towards becoming strong so one day it will be my turn to dance on pointe shoes. I love to dance!

Welcome Aboard! One perfect, sunny day during my Easter break, my cousins from Ireland came over to America. They wanted to see the Statue Of Liberty, Ellis Island,& The World Trade Center. My family and I decided that The Circle Line tour would be our best bet to cover all these requests. My mom told me the tour was going to be two hours, but what would happen if I got sea sick? But all I felt was the excitement and happiness in the crisp Hudson Waters.
Being a tourist in New York City was fun. Over the crackling microphone the tour director talked, history, scenery and some jokes in between. First we saw The Statue of Liberty. We had a really good view, the Statue of Liberty is 300 feet above the waters of New York Harbor.Nicknamed Lady Liberty, it was a gift from France to the United States in 1886, I thought it was 151 feet and 1 inch of the most incredible thing I have ever seen. We also saw Ellis Island, and although we didn’t tour the Immigration Museum you could almost feel the sense of bitter sweetness that the immigrants felt.

The original World Trade Center was complex with seven buildings featuring the landmark twin towers.
Even though I was tired, my appetite was big. We went to the famous Umberto’s, where my cousins had their first ever taste of New York pizza.I knew it was a special dinner because I got to order soda. At the end of the day, I had a great day being a tourist and sharing my amazing New York with my Irish cousins.

Families care for you. In the book Bud Not Buddy, Bud’s family cared for him by helping him even when they’re not around, giving him a ride, & letting him be in the band. These are three ways Bud was cared for.
Families care for you by helping you even when they are not around.
When Bud’s mom, Angela died,(at age 26) she left Bud little clues in his suitcase so that he would find his father (Herman E. Calloway.) Bud’s mom left him the clues in his suitcase because she knew Bud would want to search for his father. Each clue helped out Bud in some sort of way. Like, when Bud was trying to find his father, Bud’s mom left him flyers of Herman E. Calloway’s band The Dusky Devastators of the Depression. I thought that it was her way to set Bud off on his own journey to find himself and his own independence.
But, not only family cares for you, friends can sometimes stand in for family. Lefty Lewis did a very good thing for Bud. Lefty drove Bud from Flint, Michigan all the way to Grand Rapids Michigan.
Lefty Lewis saw Bud on the side of the road, he let Bud get in his car with him. Even though Bud thought Lefty Lewis was a vampire he still stayed in the car, because this would be the only person that would give Bud a ride.
Another way families care for you is, sometimes they know just what you need to feel better. The band members laugh at Bud’s story about how he arrived there, but take sympathy on him because he's an orphan. The band realizes that it would be important to Bud to play his saxophone and be included in the band. I think that was very nice of all of the people in the Dusky Devastators of the Depression let Bud have the experience of playing in the band. Ultimately, Bud finds his grandfather, who I hope cares for him like family.

“When I grow up I want to be famous I want to be a star I want to be in movies!” The song called “When I Grow Up” by the Pussycat Dolls inspires me to dance. When I get older I want to be famous, to be a star and to be in movies. I love to dance so I am writing this because It makes me happy to look back and see that I have been dancing since I was 3! It also makes me feel proud. I used to point to the front to the side and to the back, and now I am doing fancier moves like coupe (french word for pointing your toe on your leg in the front), pique (french word for plie and then kicking.) Another part of the song is “When I grow up, be on TV, people know me, be in magazine's”, I would like to be on TV for my dancing ability, and to be in magazines. I would love to do a photo shoot and have a photo spread of me doing an arabesque. My dance academy is Garden City Dance Studio, they have taught me very well and I would like to thank them! I take classes in tap and ballet. My sisters and I all used to do dance together, but Alannah and Tara have moved on to other sports. Over the years I have had many beautiful dance recital costumes. They had ruffles, tulle, lace, sequins, and a lot of sparkle. They were all so beautiful I couldn’t pick a favorite. This year my costume is pinkish purple with roses and lace. On recital day there is so much excitement and anticipation. We start preparing very early. At home we get in our costumes, get our makeup done, get our hair done, and make sure we look perfect! Then we head out of the house and drive to The Westbury Music Fair. The younger kids usually go first. They look so small on the big, round stage. As I wait patiently for my turn I watch the other dancers perform and enjoy the show. Finally, when it is my turn to dance, I walk onto the stage, blinded by the bright lights, but smiling, confident and ready to show the audience the poise and grace I have learned in dance this year. I am a STAR!

Hopes and Dreams 2

In September I set what I thought were realistic goals for myself. When I checked back to my Hopes and Dreams blog from September, my goals were to get better grades, to read more, and to improve my math skills. I thought, “Of course I reached my goals”. However, after looking back on my goals, I realized maybe I wasn’t one hundred percent successful.
I have been working on getting better grades by improving my effort. I really want to get all “4’s” on my report card. I’ll have to wait until March to see if I can succeed at this goal.
I have reached my goal of reading more by reading more often. I would sit on my flowered comforter quietly in my room with a reading goal in mind. Surprisingly time would fly by. All of a sudden my Mom was calling me for dinner and I realized I had gone ahead of my goal.
I have tried to reach my math goal by studying flashcards. I have gotten all forty of my math blaster problems correct. I feel I have reached my reading and math goals for the short term. but I know I cannot take a break because the ELA test will be here in April.
My new goal is to try to increase my effort. I will achieve this goal by trying harder and paying closer attention. Focusing on the tasks and challenges will be an area which I can improve. My second new goal is to practice my instrument three times a week. My instrument is the Bass. It is a very large and awkward instrument to take out. Now we have moved my instrument and the music stand to a more accessible location so I can play more often. I am going to try to play my instrument as soon as I get home from school. I will practice, practice, practice! I’m sure Ms. Lanuto will notice.
I know I can achieve my goal of getting better grades if I put in the extra effort. Effort will also help me reach my goal of mastering my instrument.
I am ready for this challenge in 2012!

Food webs are very unique because if one thing is changed it will have an effect on everything included in the web. The food web represents the delicate cycle of nature, if upset it will result in huge changes for all animals and plants in the habitat.
This essay will examine the Black Panthers food web and habitat and how it can change.
Black Panthers can adapt to living in a wide variety of habitats. The Black Panthers’ habitats include the rain forest, marshland,
woodland, swamps, deserts, and mountains.
The Black Panther is a consumer. Their food web includes meat, birds, monkeys, fish, rodents, deer, and antelope. Meat is their main source of nourishment, therefore, they are carnivores. They would be on the top of the food chain. The Black Panther is the predator and what it consumes is its prey. The Black Panther has a food web which consists of six parts. First the food web will start at the at the vegetation level, which is the producer. Then it will work its way up to the insects, which will then be consumed by birds. The birds will be consumed by animals such as foxes. The fox will be the prey of the deer. Lastly,at the top of the food chain will be the panther who consumes the deer.
The Black Panther does not live on Long Island any longer because the habitat has changed due to construction, population and expansion. All these factors pushed the black panthers habitat into extinction on Long Island.
Once the panther was gone, it’s prey would increase in population since it was no longer being hunted. This would effect the balance of the food web. For example, once the panther was gone, there would be another top predator in the food chain. They would be competing for both less available lower level prey and living space.
I don’t think it would have been possible for the black panther and humans to live in the same habitat. It would have been dangerous for both species. Also, human progress would have been hard to stop.
In conclusion you would think the Black Panther had it all being at the top of the food chain. Unfortunately, other factors beyond its control led to changes in his habitat.

The Jaw Dropping Shopping Trip
By: Catriona O’Shea
One day we were off from school and mom decided that it was a good day to go to the mall. We needed some dresses because we had so many occasions coming up. But there was so much to look at and choose from so many options made it hard to pick. First we went to JcPenny I was very lucky because we found two dresses for me right away. One was dark blue with a lime green sash, and the second one was green with all different color flowers on it.My mom decided that my two older sisters also needed dresses so we went to Tjmaxx. Alannah found a pretty purple dress with polka dots. and Tara found a gorgeous pink dress, and they also found one sky blue dress to share. While they picked out their sizes mom set down my already bought dresses to help them. We were very lucky because we would get FIVE dresses. So we walked to the checkout line to pay for my two older sisters dresses and waited as the line moved slowly. Mom was talking about how successful our shopping trip had been.
Then Alannah yelled “Who has the dresses?”
No one answered. We all looked at each other hoping that one of us was holding them. No such luck. Mom remembered that we had set the dresses down in the Communion section, while looking around. Then mom ran like mad to the Communion section. We all darted behind her trying to keep up. When we had finally run across the store to the communion section mom spotted the bag on the hook immediately. We snatched it and all took a breathe of relief. Then we walked to the checkout line and talked about how scary of a situation that was.
