The Year 3 students have been writing stories about Holidays and Celebrations using the online storywriting tool "Storybird". They have been writing in partners at school but have also begun making their own stories from home on Storybird.
Here is an example of one Holiday Story. You can read more by clicking the links to the left or by visiting Student's pages. Happy Reading!

Whenever we begin a new unit of Investigation and Inquiry, we gain so much new knowledge about the topic and we learn important skills for seeking and finding information.
We learn to ask good questions and to find sources of information to get answers. We also learn to gather information, to decide what is relevant or not and to test out theories and document the results. Lastly, we learn that there is more than one way to share our learning.
Here is a collage of our learning about Space. To enlarge any picture, simply click on it.

On Monday the 31st of October, Year 3 carved a pumpkin.
First, we drew a pumpkin face on a piece of paper and then we voted for the best pumpkin face. Imogen got voted for the best face so Imogen drew the face on the pumpkin.
After that Connor and Gabe cut the top off the pumpkin.
Then, we all had a go at pulling the seeds and the guts out of the pumpkin.
After that, it was all clean.
Mackensie and William cut the eyes out of the pumpkin. After that, Harry cut the nose out. Then, Jacinta washed the seeds in the sink.
Next, Gabby, Brandon, Lucy and Dylan cut the teeth out on the pumpkin.
Then Mrs Bush roasted the seeds. It took about 15 minutes to roast them. Mr Stanley went and got the seeds for us from the oven. Then Mrs Bush put salt on the seeds for us. We all enjoyed them [every one said they tasted like popcorn].
Next, we got some matches from Mrs Grace. Mrs Bush got a match and lit a candle and put it inside the pumpkin. Then we turned the lights off and Mrs Bush took a picture of the pumpkin and Year 3. We had a great time celebrating Halloween with Mrs Bush!!!

On August the 5th we did our first Investigation called Hello,Sun. We learned that the sun riser in the East and sets in the West. At 12.00 the sun is at it's highest point, but it has the shortest shadow. At 10.00 the sun is lower than at 3.00. At the start we had a little trouble finding North.

In science we've been learning about how the sun appears to move across the sky and how it makes a shadow bigger and smaller. We've watched how the sun "moves" across the sky all day and we also put a toothpick in a rubber and sat it out in the sun.We put the rubber on a piece of paper and we drew where the shadow moved on the piece of paper. We wrote the time beside the shadow it made so we knew what time the shadow was in that position. The sun appears to move from east to west but it is really the earth that is moving. In the morning the shadow is bigger and at 12:00 the shadow is smaller.

On Wednesday August 24, we celebrated National Literacy Week with "Books for Breakfast" and a favourite book character parade. It was fantastic to see so many families out for this event and we loved seeing many of our favourite book characters come to life. Thank you to all of our families for supporting us in this fun event!

First you need an object, a surface and light. Well the sun has to be behind you and the sun has to shine straight to your back. When the light hits you, the light will go around you and it creates a shadow because the back side of the person is dark. We went outside and we found a place and we have to pick a partner to trace our shadow. When we went out for our second look the shadow went bigger and it moved up and we traced it again and we had to put a cross where the third shadow will be. The shadow moved and got bigger because of the way the earth moves and the sun's position in the sky. It was cool.

On Friday the 26th of July we celebrated Naidoc
day and we did Aboriginal activities and there
were 10 stations of activities. We tried damper, kangaroo and native berries. We learned to play kitijiri which is a ball game. There was a didgeridoo group and if girls played the
didgeridoo they would not have babies so only boys got to play it. We got our faces painted how ever we wanted in aboriginal colours and we dot painted on bark and made Aboriginal flags. It
was fun on National Aboriginal day and we learned a lot.
