Multiple sclerosis damages and destroys brain tissue, the tissue on the back of your spine, and neurons. Everything gets damaged by demylenation, which makes multiple sclerosis an autoimmune disease. An autoimmune disease occurs when your own immune system attacks healthy cells and tissue that are not doing anything bad to your body. This makes everything in your body weakened and destroyed. Your senses, your balance, your ability to move your arms and legs and so on will be affected. Multiple sclerosis is a disease of which we don’t know what produces the attacks or flare ups, but we do know what happens inside your body if you have it. Multiple sclerosis is a degenerative disease. This means it gets worse and worse every day.
Affecting The System
MS causes demylenation. Demylenation is when the myelin sheath gets damaged which does not allow messages to pass smoothly through the axon. The myelin sheath is the fatty cover that protects the cell. Demylenation happens when the immune system sends white blood cells to protect the body from viruses that barged in. The immune system makes a vital mistake be detecting normal cells as intruders and so the immune system starts to attack and kill the intruders they have detected which ends up weakening the body. Brain tissue also gets damaged by demylenation but brain tissue does not get damaged from the myelin sheath since brain tissue is not a cell. Multiple sclerosis can damage your entire body because it eliminates everything in the nervous system and the nervous system controls everything in your body.
*Did you know that J.K Rowling’s late mother suffered from Multiple sclerosis?
Causes
There are certain diseases that no one knows for sure how you get them .MS is one of them. MS is a very mysterious disease that can affect you at any moment but you won’t feel anything at first. Neurologists are still trying to find out what causes the disease to prevent it from happening. You usually get MS between ages 20-40 but it can occur at any age. Multiple sclerosis is luckily not a contagious disease so if you live with someone who has the disease you can’t get it from him or her, no matter what you do. Mostly women get diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
How Are We Going To Treat It?
There is no absolute cure for multiple sclerosis, but there are loads of treatments you can take if you have it. A drug was discovered in 1993.Now its more advanced and reduces the amount of demylenation happening. It even starts to close the patches in the myelin sheath. There are different treatments you can take because the treatment depends upon where the attack of MS takes place in your body
It is tough to live with multiple sclerosis because it would weaken your body harshly until you no longer can move your legs or arms and other horrible things. Not everybody dies when they are diagnosed with this horrible disease even though it takes over your body at some point. Luckily these days we have advanced medicine we have treatment that weakens the effect of multiple sclerosis.
