One theme of “Game” is that Drew trys to live a drug free life while living in a drug/gang filled neighborhood.
“Basketball is wonderful, Son, and I’m glad you’re playing sports instead of running the streets.” – This quote represents how his family feels about the community they live in and how they are very proud that Drew is not involved with any gangs or drugs.

This neighboorhood is infested with gang bangers and drug dealers. Drew struggles to live in this situation and go to school on a daily basis.

Character Analysis

Article posted May 24, 2010 at 06:24 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 39

The character I am analyzing in this book is Drew. He is a tall slim african american male.

Drew is the kind of guy who wants whats best for him. He really doesn’t care about his team he just wants to win and boost his stats. All he trys to do is score as many points as he can so the college scouts look at him. Drew gets mad when the coach puts someone else in the spotlight instead of him.

The other characters see him as a team captain who leads them to victory. Except for the coach who thinks he is mostly a selfish kid who thinks only about himself. His family always trys to get him thinking positive about every situation the coach throws at him. His sister is one of his best friends and they always give eachother advice about anything and everything.

My character is the narrator and the story is through his point of view. Drew makes it seem like everything that he does is the best option possible.

Plot Summery

The book called “Game” is about an African American boy trying to reach his dreams of getting a college scholarship for basketball. He has many obstacles in his way as he lives in a neighborhood full of drug dealers, gangsters, and other terrible influences.

For his own good, he has loving and concerned parents, and a smart, supportive younger sister to provide a safe haven in which to develop his dreams. But it’s hard to concentrate when his best friend’s brother is arrested and awaiting trial.

He learns that he must get along with his team, but does not have to be best friends with all of them. Throughout the story, Drew continues to mature, although he is sometimes messes up.
