Well, the week has been and gone when Room 12 have madly been preparing and presenting our class assembly item. What a great week it was - filled with acting, singing, prop-making, dancing and much more! Everybody worked really hard during the practises to get our 15min performance top-notch for the whole school and parents on Friday afternoon. Here are some photos of our performance of "Michael Recycle".

This term, our afternoon topic is Drama. During Reading time each day, we have been using some of the skills from drama and putting these into practice by doing Plays from the School Journals. This week Room 12 went on a trip to the Rotorua Museum. We visited the special exhibition called "Body in Action". Have a look at the amazing scientific things we got up to. We learned a lot, and would love to share our learning with you. Ask us questions at home about our day!

Our Topic this month has been "The Brilliant Brain and How We Learn". Room 12 have been learning all sorts of amazing things about how our brains work. We know about the left and right hemispheres, the cerebellum, the diencephalon and much much more.. (just ask us!).
On Wednesday afternoon, we had a close look at some Sheep brains. We had to describe how they looked, smelled and felt. It was fascinating to see in real life all the parts of the brain that we had been looking at in diagrams in books.

Well, welcome to Room 12 for 2011! Last year I said good-bye to my Year 6 kids as they all went off to Intermediates all over Rotorua. This year, I am really pleased to be working in the Middle School. I am in Room 12, teaching a fantastic group of 24 Year 3 students. We have had a great first few weeks at school so far this year with all sorts of exciting things happening. Watch this space to follow our exciting learning journey throughout the year... WOW! What an awesome time we had with Room 2 at Lake Whakamaru Christian Camp for three days and two nights! The children participated in all sorts of amazing activities; from kayaking to Flying Fox and everything inbetween. Wow, what a week we had in Week 1 of Term 4! Our holidays were great, but were soon over when we realised we had 4 days to put together a 20min performance for our Community Assembly on the Friday!
The kids worked really hard to learn their lines, practise their dances, and organise props and costumes. I was proud of each and every one of them for the efforts they put in to the practises all week and the fnal performance. Take a look at our photos of "The Magic School Bus Goes Around The World". The last few weeks of Term have been busy for Room 3. I've decided to introduce them to Term 4's Narrative writing by giving them a fun task:
Write a story 100 words long (or 150, depending on their writing group) using 4 specific words at least once in their story.
Have a read of some of their blog entries for this task. Feel free to leave productive comments for them, giving them things they can work on with their writing! Enjoy!

Well, I'm in my 7th(!) year of teaching now. I have taught in the Bay of Plenty, as well as a number of fantastic schools in England. A new year at Lynmore Primary School (Rotorua, New Zealand) has seen me change into a Year 3 class this year.
