The Pittsburgh Steelers 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals may not have been pretty but it sure showed how champions never give up. On the Steelers’ first score, Ben Roethlisberger thought he had run for a touchdown but a challenge from the Cardinals’ bench forced the Steelers to settle for a field goal. Then at the end of the first half, Arizona Cardinals’ quarterback Kurt Warner was just inches away from a touchdown, but his pass ended up in the hands of Steelers’ linebacker Harrison who took the ball and kept on going—100 yards for a touchdown. But the Cardinals never gave up either and the Steelers found themselves behind, 23-20 with less than a minute to go. Ben Roethlisberger was in striking distance of a touchdown, but his first pass sailed through the hands of wide receiver Santonio Holmes. On the next play, Holmes went to the right side of the field and caught the pass, dragging his toes in the endzone to make sure the touchdown was good.

Your next assignment is to write about some place unusual where you go to read. It could be a regular place or just someplace you ended up once. In either case, I'd like to compile some articles about reading for Reading Month in March.
Again, remember to use the spelling and grammar check features in Word before you copy and paste your article into Blogmeister. Check your initial capital letters and punctuation. Also try to get a peer editor to read your work.

This week we will change the template of our blogs and leave comments.
If you have extra time, you may also want to create an avatar for the upper right hand corner of your blog template. Click here to go to a site from Japan that lets you create a custom avatar. When you finish editing all of your features, right click on the image, then Save As... to your computer.
Then go to the Control Panel to upload your personal image (see Changing Your Blog Template worksheet).

Writing Your First Blog Article

Your first assignment is to write a paragraph about something you love to do outside of school that includes interesting supporting details. Your blog entries will always be one of two types: the first type is an assignment like this where you compose your article on the computer, the second type will follow the John Collins process to a type three or type four writing where you will publish a finished product created for a class assignment.
The writing of the first type must be your "best reasonable effort" with proper capitalization and punctuation. You will start your article in Word so it can be spell-checked. You will also need one peer edit. Your peer editor must add his/her initials to the bottom of your article.
Then when the editing process is complete, choose "Select All" from the Edit Menu, select "Copy" from the Edit Menu, then log in to Blogmeister, open the "Articles" control panel, and paste into the "Article" window. Be sure to type in a "Title" for your article. Be sure to read through your article to make sure everything was copied before you check the "Publish" box and "save." If you would like comments, check the box for "Unrestricted Comments."
Remember, all articles must be approved before they appear on your blog. If you fail to meet the standard for "best reasonable effort" your article will not be published and you will need to edit it. Blog articles will typically be approved for publication twice a day: once around 11 am and once in the evening.

Explore These Classroom Blogs

Blogs have been called the “Read/Write Web” because they began as an easy way for one Internet explorer to share what they found with others. It’s not unusual to find blog posts that quote from other blogs and offer comments or criticism.
So to begin in that tradition your first assignment is to visit another classroom blog and read a few entries. All of these links are from Blogmeister so you will also begin to learn the format we will be using.
When you click on one of the links below, first notice the banner at the top that identifies the class; it may include the name of the school and the location of that school. Next look to the left side of the page; you may see some links then you will see a list of individual assignments or posts....you can click on any of these to begin reading a post. Next look in the middle of the page; this is where the actual posts or articles appear. Next look to the right where you will see a list of student names; you can also select these to read all of the posts by a particular student.
