Dear Freshy,
Freshman year is going to be a memorable year for all of you. It's the first year of high school. The year that actually matters towards college acceptances. So, in that case, I'll give you a few tips based on my freshman experience.
First of all, you HAVE TO do your work. It's a crucial part of your grade. Even if you don't like doing what you have to do it's got to be done one way or another. This should be your top priority.
Secondly, listen to the teacher. You don't want to miss out on finding out when something is due because with so many classes and so many things going on at once, you're going to want to keep up.
Thirdly, get to class on time. It may seem like teachers won't write your name down on the tardy sheet, but they do. Too many tardies and you could land yourself in the ASD room.
Fourthly, keep up on homework. I know many people play sports and afterschool activities like drama and the debate team, but you can't risk getting too far behind because none of the teachers are going to stop what they're doing and wait for you to catch up.
Fifthly, be nice to others. Don't talk behind anybody's back because you may think they don't hear it but they do. Many people think words don't hurt but they do, much more than people think they do. Besides, it's your freshman year, just think, do you want your freshman year to be remembered as the year that you had talked behind people's backs and hurt others? I know I wouldn't.
And lastly, have fun. There are many more great opporatunities now in your freshman year than there were in Junior High, so take some of those opporatunities. Don't worry about what others might think of you. Take any chances you can get. It's your life and your goals that you set for yourself. So go to homecoming with the person you like. Try out for the lead part in the next play. Debate till you've got nothing else to debate about because you never know what may happen in the future that may change the outcome of the rest of your high school experience.
Freshman year can be a bit scary. New teachers, different lockers and class rooms, and a different lunch period. It can get very hectic extremely easily but if you use some of the tips I just gave you, freshman year can be a lot easier than you would think it would be.
Good luck new freshman! Graduation is only a few years away now!

Dear Freshy,
Well, in 9th grade your gonna have a lot more work to do. The teachers aren't like they used to be where they just give you one assigment a week. Now you have so much work to do. It's tiring. You're just going to want to get the year over with so you don't have to deal with it anymore. It's sometimes too much to handle.
There are some good things about being a freshman though. For example, when its comes to being field day you can do whatever you want. You can just walk around and have as much fun as possible. Another would be when its time for the talent show. The talent show is one of the best parts of the year. That's about it for being a freshman.
Sincerely,
Lance.

Dear Freshy,
When coming into the ninth grade things might be tough be don’t give up on anything. My advice is not let anyone tell you that you can’t do something because if you really want to, you can. To be successful, keep up with your work and stay on top of things. As soon as you get your projects and homework, get started right away and don’t blow them off. If you blow everything off you will start failing and sometimes you’re grade might harder to pull back up then doing the first thing the first time.
One really nice thing about freshman year is the two prep rallies. You always have fun as long as you show some class and school spirit. Another thing that is really nice to have in ninth grade is that you get more independence to everything. Teachers won’t concisely tell you to do this or that about their class. The bad part about that is some students won’t do the work and fail after they don’t. The downside to freshman year is you might fight with a lot of people but it’s only a natural way of life.
Keep your head up high and you’ll do fine! Good luck class of 2015!
Sincerely,
Kelly.

Dear Freshy,
Freshman year is exciting. There is a huge difference from Jr. High to high school. You receive more responsibility especially if you’re involved in athletics or any extracurricular activities. The work is not hard but you have to stay on top of your assignments.
As a freshman you are invited to pep rallies. They are alright, but don’t embarrass yourself; you’re a freshman! In conclusion, enjoy the first year of your high school career. However, with all the fun comes more responsibility. Work hard on your grades because now they go on your transcript. I wish you the best of luck.
Sincerely, Tanner

Dear Freshy,
Freshman year is fun, but can be difficult at times. The teachers are usually cool, but if you don’t show respect to them, they definitely won’t show respect to you.The classes aren’t really hard at all, depending on your strengths in certain classes.
One thing that will get annoying to a freshman is the fact that you’re now the smallest people in high school now. Seniors, juniors, and sophomores will always say some kind of derogatory comment about you.“Who cares what you have to say, you’re a freshman.” is a good example. Also, being a freshman isn’t horrible, but it does have its ups and downs. But if you happen to find yourself in a stressful time as a freshman, just think, a couple more years, and you’re out of this place for good. That’s what I always say to myself.
Therefore, I wish the class of 2015 the best of luck!
Sincerely,
Matt D

Dear Freshmen,
Welcome to the wonderful freshmen year. Being a freshmen changes things a little bit but not really. One thing that changes is that you are able to do a lot more fun activities. Going to homecoming was one of my favorite things I did when I was in ninth grade. You also get to go to the pep rallies and participate in more things.
Some of the disadvantages of being a freshmen is that you’re the youngest. It seems like you don’t matter to all the upper classmen. In student council you get the boring jobs that no one else wants to do. You don’t really get that much say in planning things either. You always get the short end of the stick. But in the end the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Ninth grade will definitely be a great year for you! Good luck!
Love,
Kristi

Dear Freshy,
Life as a freshman has its ups and its downs. The downs are that there is more homework. The classes are a little bit harder. The teachers expect a little bit more out of you. Those are all the downs I can think of.
The ups about being a freshman is that you don’t need a note to be somewhere like an after school study hall. You feel prouder when you do well in a hard class. You can go to the prep assembly. You get more fun class trips instead of just historical ones. Those are the ups of being a freshman.
Sincerely,
Cooper

Dear Freshman,
As you enter ninth grade you will have to overcome some obstacles that might come across your path and some rules you must follow. (I’ll fill you in later.) Also I will tell you the teachers' weaknesses.
Ninth grade the big boys and girls grade… yeah right all you’ve done is start over. Ninth grade is the high school’s seventh grade. Your thrown back to being the little guys. One big thing is that your lunch will be a half an hour later than before which stinks but besides that, always keep your grades up because the year goes by quicker than you can believe. Also always become friends with everyone so that you will have very little enemies and if you get into a fight, punch for all you’ve got because teachers get there quicker than ever expected. People always like a little excitement in their usual boring school day.
Now it is time to get into a better topic because I’m sure that Miss Transue is reading this and saying, “This is great telling new ninth graders to fight for all they got…” Well here are where the rules start.
Rule 1: Always listen to me
Rule 2: Never just sit and do nothing during DGP or Miss Transue will smite you
Rule 3: Never eat Mr. Hein’s food
Rule 4:Don’t complain because it gives me a headache
Rule 5: Don’t be a rat because then every one will never confide in you again
Those are just a few of the rules. Some warnings are that never go into Mr. Hein’s closet because there is one scary doll ready to eat you face if you open the door. Another thing is that to pay no attention to Mr. Slick if he’s picking on you. If you have a problem with it TOO BAD!
Now for those long awaited weaknesses you have been dying to read. First at every chance give Mr. Hein food. Second for Miss. Transue just do your work and don’t be really rowdy. Third always ask questions in Mr. Woolcock’s class. Fourth if you have Mr. Bart, ignore his remarks but ask weird questions that he could play off of and it will burn class time. Nothing will help you more than just to shut up and do your work.
Things should go very good for you next year if you just listen to this blog and you should do fine. Remember rule 1: always listen to me, because… well because I said so!
Have fun,
Sincerely, Brian

Dear Freshy,
How’s it going? Bet this year isn’t as scary as you thought it would be. Or even as great as you thought it would be. Some people get this really great or really awful image of high school and really it’s neither. It’s just plain life.
Here are some things to consider as a new freshman.
1) Don’t get on the bad side of your teachers. Show them that you can have fun but still take things seriously.
2) Keep trying. Don’t blow everything off when you get frustrated.
3) And most importantly, don’t depend on others for the success of your school year or to “always be there for you” because for some reason, 9th graders like to change their minds and follow the “in” crowd. Don’t let yourself be part of that group.
Your freshman year can be really great and I truly hope that it is but don’t ruin it by getting in on the drama. It gets old. Be good so that you get a really good field trip. (Dorney Park is strongly recommended by most of the grade)! Take the chance and go to homecoming. Date or no date, it will be one of the most fun school functions you will ever go to. There isn’t too much else so I’ll let you get on with your busy life and stop bugging you.
I hope that your year is fabulous, your activities crazy, and your field trip a blast!
Keep on keepin’ on!
Sincerely
Sunny

Dear Freshy,
You should look forward to your 9th grade year. The rules are less strict than any lower grades. Everyone seems carefree, and more importantly it is a very easy year. There is not much homework. You don’t even do much of anything in class.
My advice to anyone entering into 9th grade would to be organized. If you keep your locker clean and have all your work due in a nice orderly fashion 9th grade will be a breeze. If you get messy and lose a lot of your work 9th grade will definitely be a challenge. Organization is key throughout all of high school. If you get all of your work in on time high school becomes a lot easier.
Sincerely,
Matt W

Dear Freshy,
Well this is your freshman year and your first year in high school. It’s really not that bad as everyone makes it out to be. It’s actually a fun year and just think that you only have three more years left after this one.
Make sure that this year you keep up on your work and get good grades because you get to participate in a lot of new activities like field day which is a lot better than junior high field day, and you get to go to a lot of pep rallies. The pep rallies are a lot of fun but remember to try and not embarrass yourself.
A downer of being a freshman is that sometimes you’ll get picked on. You just have to deal with it and keep your head high and it won’t be so bad.
If you stay on top of your grades and schoolwork freshman year should be pretty fun for you. Hope you have an amazing freshman year.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth

Dear Freshy,
9th grade is going to be somewhat different and similar to 8th grade. You'll be with the same people, but some of of them will change. You probably will to. You'll also be in your first offical year of high school. This means your at the bottom of the totem pole, again, but your still not as low as the 7th grades.
Being in 9th grade also means you get a label: Freshman. You will also have more study halls that have older people in them. Get to know them. Freshman year is kind of a year for change, so make it positive. You'll be able to pick some of the classes you want to take, like a langauge or a shop class.
Vo-tech signups are also this year, I recommend you take a tour of it and see if you like any of the classes. I also recommend you go on the field trip and every dance you might have, or special event, if not you might regret it and miss out on memories. Just hit freshman year hard!
Good Luck!
- Drew

Dear Freshman,
A lot of thing will be changing now that you are in high school. For example, sports will be a lot more competitive. They will be more competitive because the coaches expect you to win. It may be harder for some people to. It could be hard because it could be a tough switch from junior high to junior varsity.
Classes will change to. Some of your classes will be upstairs. This is kind of hard because of you having to get to one of your downstairs classes. Some teachers don’t tolerate you being late. They will write you up, or send you late to lunch like Miss Transue does.
From,
Alyssa

Dear Freshy,
You’re now a freshman, officially in high school. Exciting? Sometimes it is, other times not so much. Some advice to get you through the year would be to be organized. Know when all of your assignments are due, get them done before the due date, use your study halls to get your work done, and use your planner, it will really help! Remember, grades are now really important; they go on your high school transcript.
The teachers are different than from junior high. There not always on your back telling you to do stuff. It’s your responsibility. For those of you who are independent, you’ll be fine, but for those of you who depend on others, you’re going to have to step it up!
One last thing, being a freshman entitles you to go to senior high activities such as pep rallies, dances, and field day. They are fun, but remember you’re only a freshman, you don’t mean anything to seniors! :)
Sincerely,
Kayla

Dear Freshman,
Are you ready for your 9th grade year? Are you responsible and organized enough to be a successful freshman? Freshman or fresh meat? Being a freshman is a big deal. You are growing up and need to be responsible and organized. Freshman are the youngest in the high school, but oldest in the middle school.
To be a successful 9th grader you must stay ahead on your work. You cannot get behind so early. If you plan on slacking off you will struggle all year. Don’t start the year off laidback, or you will be behind and fail. Ninth grade is the first year that your grades will start actually counting. For those who usually get honors or high honors it’s hard to get. Although, if you put forth effort and don’t get behind you can get rewarded for good grades just like in 7th and 8th. Grades are very important once you get into 9th grade. Everything from here on will be on your record, and could determine when you will graduate or not.
The worst part about being a freshman is being the youngest in the high school. The juniors and seniors have much authority in the hallways. The best part about being a freshman is the freedom and respect you get from teachers. This also means that if you are absent from school you are responsible to get your missed work. The teachers will not come to you. Another good part about being a freshman is the sports teams. You have better competition and play with better teammates from grades 9-12th. It’s much more difficult level but if you have a love for the sport you could play varsity. I had a good year as a freshman and I hope you do too, Good Luck!
Sincerely,
Casey

Dear freshman class of 2015
Personally it feels like it’s been years since I heard welcome freshman for the first time. If you want to have a good ninth grade year you should probably listen to my advice and read this blog. One of the best things that I noticed about being a freshman is that as a fresh man you get a little more respect. Not too much though because the seniors are always trying to shoot you down, but don’t let it get to you. I think the phrase “do on to others as you would want done to you” has a lot in common with this year. For example Mr. Hein’s class, if you do your work and respect his class it can be one of the best classes at Elk Lake School. On the other hand if you do get in an argument with him you better be witty because he has some of the best comebacks.
Another Thing that’s nice about 9th grade is the pep rallies and homecoming. You still won’t be able to go to prom unless you get invited. You also have gym with the seniors. That is one of the not so good things about 9th grade, unless your friends with them because they can be really cocky. One thing that you have to remember is that life is a ride, and you should enjoy it. Same thing with 9th grade, just do what your told and enjoy the ride.

Dear Freshy,
I hope you have a great year being a freshman, for some of you maybe a great year or two. There are a few important things you need to know. You should always be organized an get all your work done on time. You shouldn't be late to class, very often. You should always listen to the directions the first time because teachers tend to get angry when they have to repeat themselves.
You shouldn't pass notes in class because if it gets taken they will most likley read it outloud to the class, that would be embarrassing. Also dont wait to get the answers on the board for DGP because if enough people wait then she will take it as a quiz, not good. you also should keep a lock on your locker because your friends may do something bad to or in your locker. Good lucky freshmen.
Sincerely, Haili

Dear Freshman,
Have fun being a freshman this year. For some of you it will be a very hard year and others it will be very easy. To make this year as easy as possible year all you need to do is hand in all of your work on time and if it is late, hand it in fast anything is better than a zero trust me. Also Remember to always hand in Miss Transue's blogs because they are pretty much your whole grade.
Sometimes you may goof off with your friends and may end up in Mr. Weisgold's office try to avoid that happening because if you get in trouble and get OSS or ISS or even if your just absent and you miss work in class it is your responsibility to go to your teachers and ask them what you missed. They will not tell you what you missed. The only other thing is come prepared always bring something to write with, if you ask the teachers sometimes they will have one for you but not all the time.
Good Luck!
Sincerely,
Eddie

Dear Freshy,
Well you are currently a freshman? Starting or turning into a freshman is hard work I can tell you! First thing first have you ever heard of the “freshman hunt” When older dudes come up and basically “hunt” other freshman. It’s not real! When I first started gosh I was nervous. It turns out it is not real! I guess the positives of being a freshman would be privileges and trips. You get better options on all sorts of things. Like field trips, benefits and dances going on, all sorts of things! The negatives for me are very few. The only thing that bugged me was certain people treating me different (not in a bad way!) but they where looking down on me.
Being a freshman can sometimes be difficult. Right now you should be getting used to lots of homework, assignments, etc. Because when you turn into a junior you’re basically going to get buried alive by homework. You might as well get used to it now! Enjoy your freshman year as it lasts. It is going to go by quicker than you think. Pretty soon you will be 20 years old, married or living with a bunch of cats wondering where your years went. I am hoping that this helped some of you out!
Sincerely,
Bethany W

Dear freshy,
Being a freshman can be fun but it can also be a bore. You have to do blogs which I think is fun especially the freewrites when you write the freewrites you can so them about anything. But sometimes you have to do things you really don’t like. The best thing ever is the teacher; she’s a great teacher. Don’t get me started on DGP (Daily Grammar Program) if you don’t get it done she will mostly likely yell at you for it.
With your homework your best bet is doing it the day you receive it. Always listen to the teacher the first time they say something because sometimes they won’t say it again. Work hard with the projects. If you have any questions make sure you ask them so you understand it more. So if you ever have a problem just ask the teachers that’s why they’re there to help you understand!!!!
Sincerly,
Hope :)

Dear freshman, Wow I bet you are happy that you are finally a ninth grader. It is a very fun year but don’t have too much fun because the teachers don’t nag you about getting your work turned in. For English you better hope that you do what you’re told when you’re told. If you are doing dgp you better get it done or it will turn in to a quiz grade. If you get all your work done then you will do great. You also have to learn that some of the teachers love to joke around. You may also learn that Mr. Hein loves his scary doll. Another thing about being in ninth grade is that you get to go to homecoming and it is really fun. One thing about ninth grade that isn’t that fun is that your teachers don’t ask for the work that you owe they just go in as zeros. You will learn that at prep rallies the seniors always win no matter what. I hope that your freshman year was as fun as mine.

Dear freshman,
Miss Transue said we had to write a letter to upcoming freshman so here you go!
Ninth grade is easy but not all that fun. A lot of the material is repetitive and can be boring at times. The tests are hard sometimes but not usually. The teachers give you a lot of work and a lot of deadlines. There were a lot of projects in ninth grade.
Mr. Hein likes to eat a lot and you get to have free time at the end of the period. Mr. Woolcocks class is fun but he gets off topic sometimes. Ms. Farr is really smart and Mr. Garges likes to prove a point. We read a lot of literature in Miss Transue’s class.
In ninth grade you become more independent and responsible. You also get to participate in a lot more things because you are now in high school. Eighth grade is more laid back than ninth grade because you are responsible for more work. I hope you enjoy ninth grade, best of luck!
Sincerley Katelin

Dear Freshy,
I’m going to try and give you a heads up on what to expect in your freshman year. It’s the year everything starts to fall into place for you, like getting ready for college and it gives you a lot of time to think about where you want to go in life after school. The classes get a little bit harder then they were for you the year before.
Some of the positive effects of being a freshman are, are you get more freedom in a lot of stuff you do because the teachers trust you more. The teachers trust you a lot more with working independently and hand your work in on time. It might not be the craziest year you’ll ever have but I promise you there will be a lot of adventures and you just got to be ready to take them.
The negative effects of being a freshman are that the teachers are a lot tougher on you and expect a lot more out of you then you were expected to do the year before. Lunches are a period later and you get so hungry! You have a lot more on your plate to juggle at once, but after you figure out a method on how to survive your freshman year then it’ll fly by.
Being a freshy has its ups and downs, good days and your bad days, but it feels pretty good to be considered a “someone” other then just being a little 8th grader. Life starts to have a little bit more meaning to it and it all starts in your freshman year.
Sincerely,
Kellie K

Dear Freshy,
Welcome to the wonderful year of being a freshman. As your freshman year you will see that the techers trust you more where you get away with a lot more things than you normally would. Your freshman year you will have alot of fun, but don't get to out of hand because that's when you will get in trouble.
Now to the boring part what you probably don't want to hear, but what you need to do so you dont get behind. Always do your homework and always take notes in the classes that your supposed to because it will be very helpful. All the teachers are pretty nice unless you are on their bad side. Always have something to write with because most teachers won't give you something to write with.
Those are just some of the things you have to look out for. Another thing dont get alot of referrals because if you get in trouble to much you won't be able to go on your field trip or participate in school activities. Other than that just keep your head held high and do your work and you should get through it. You should have an AWESOME ninth grade year and I wish you all good luck. :)
Sincerely,
Tiara

Freshman!!!
The first thing I want to say is welcome to ninth grade. I know that on the first day I was sooo psyched to be a freshman. I couldn't wait to get the year started and see all my friends. I didn't exactly know what to expect for the upcoming year. I wasn't sure how hard it would be, how much drama would occur, I wasn't sure about anything. I guess this blog assignment is to share my experiences in ninth grade with you and give you some pointers, so here I go...
I guess the first really great thing about ninth grade is the liberty you have. You're allowed to do more stuff than you can when you're in seventh and eighth grade. However, this can also be bad if you don't prioritize and budget your time. Teachers allow you more freedom to do what you want and give you space, therefore they don't hold your hand every step of the way. If you can't be organized, you're gonna have a really hard time because you'll lose important papers and won't get stuff done on time. You have to budget your time because otherwise with all the assignments, you will get REALLY stressed out. If you have three projects due in a week, take one home on Monday and get it done, then one Tuesday and the last one on Wednesday. That way you won't be stuck doing everything at once. Don't procrastinate!!!
Another really good thing about ninth grade for me was with electives, you get to meet more people in other grades. I met some really great people in art class, spanish class and study halls too. I love talking to different people, so this was great for me. You have to be careful to stay away from drama because there is plenty of it. I thought people would mellow and stop being so snotty with age, but there is just as much drama as in other grades. I generally stay out of it. If two of my friends are fighting and they want to complain to me, I listen but I tell them that I'm not getting involved. Don't pick a side, or talk about anyone. It just starts more drama for everyone and you can end up losing friends over dumb stuff. Also, be careful who you trust. Everyone needs someone to talk to, but make sure that the one you're telling personal stuff to is a trustworthy person.
Be careful when you joke around with teachers. If you can't take sarcasm and you get Mr. Bart as a teacher, change him as fast as you can. He's pretty cool as long as you do your work. Don't dish attitude out to a teacher if you can't take it back. Do your work, stay on task, but have lots of fun too! I loved freshman year, i hope you will too.
Love,
Rebekkah

Dear Freshy,
Being a freshman was awesome. 9th grade has been the best school year of my life so far. The teachers are awesome and there isn’t a lot of homework. There are only two bad things about being a freshman: the upper classmen, and the “growing up”.
The upper classmen look down on you because you’re below them. You don’t have the seniority anymore. The growing up is the worst. In 8th grade being kind of immature isn’t as frowned upon as it is in 9th grade. In 9th grade you are an adult, so you have to start acting like one. All in all being a freshman is a lot of fun. I hope you all enjoy yourselves in the greatest year yet=http://
Sincerely,
Matt s

Dear Freshy
Ninth grade can be a very difficult year for some people. That is if you don’t take 9th grade seriously. One thing you have to do, is always take notes. Notes should be one of your top priorities. Without notes to study, you won’t have much of a chance in passing. Asking teachers questions is always a good thing. They help you a lot more than what you might think. A good tip is to suck up to some teachers, especially Miss Transue our English teacher.
9th grade isn’t all about work though; you could have a lot of fun. In ninth grade you get to go to pep rallies which are always fun. You get to get out of class early and experience something new and amazing. Remember, ask questions, and write all of your notes down and you should be okay.
I hope you have a great year in ninth grade, good luck! –Rodger-

Dear freshmen,
I hope you enjoyed your summer. Now that you are in ninth grade I’ll tell you something’s about being a freshmen. First of all, you only have three more years to go after this year. All of the ninth grade teachers are really nice. You will learn a lot this year. Sometimes have fun in class and it’s also at times interesting!!
Ninth grade can sometimes be hard. It’s only hard if you don’t do your work and don’t pay attention in class. However if you do your best and hand in your work it’s not that bad. When you have to take notes write the best you can because you can sometimes use it on a test. For science you can always use your notes. Don’t forget to study.
When you need help or don’t understand something all you have to do is ask the teachers. They will help you. When you don’t ask then you will never understand it. They are very understanding when you need help or don’t understand. It’s better to ask then not know the answer.
Hope that you enjoy being a freshman!!!The year will be done before you know it. Have a great year and enjoy being in ninth grade. Hope you have many great times with your new teachers.
Sincerely,
Melinda J

Dear, new freshmen
You are about to enter a new place of wonders. There are many good things but with all good there is bad. Good thing number one, you are in the high school!!! You have new kind of freedom but not too much. Bad thing number one that is the only good thing. Bad thing number two things get a lot harder. That is all for the good things and bad things. The last thing you might need help with.
Things get a lot harder I know some ways to help you with thing. The first thing is get EVERY thing in on time. In order to do that you must have everything you need. You should get folders, pencils, pens, and binders (2 or 3 binders). Next, know when each thing is due. Take time to relax if you don’t you will get confused. Last just TRY. I hope I helped and you have a good year!
Sincerely,Brandon R.

Dear Freshman,
Are you ready to become a freshman? Are you ready to be an official high school student? It is a big deal to become a high school student. You have to be very organized and responsible. Know when all your assignments are due, and use your planner it really works to keep everything organized. Make sure know what your grades are they are very important, especially if you are in after school activities, such as sports. Teachers check your grades a lot more now that you are in high school.
Ninth grade is a lot different from junior high. The teachers tell you a due date and expect you to just do it. If you forget, the teachers aren’t on you everyday to get your work in on time. Now it is your responsible to know how you’re doing in your academics. Another thing is the competition in high school level is much higher than junior high. It is much more competitive, and getting a varsity position is an amazing feeling, but you MUST keep your grades up!
Become in high school also means you can go to a lot more activities. You will be able to go to pep rallies, dances, such as homecoming. It is so much fun, to go and hang out with friends. I wish you all the best of luck this year! I had a great freshman year, and I hope you to do. Best of Luck!
Sincerely,
Taylor

Class of 2015,
First of all, I want to say congratulations for making it to ninth grade. Since you’ve obviously made it through eighth grade, or else you wouldn’t be reading this, I’m going to give you advice for making it through ninth. Starting high school isn’t as big of a deal as a lot of people make it out to be. Just like any other year, you should do your work and respect your teachers. If you go to class and do what your teachers ask you to do, you’ll be fine.
My advice is to think for yourself. Don’t get caught up in drama and don’t spread rumors. Do what you like to do and if someone else has a problem with it, forget them. When you look back on high school you should want to remember enjoying it. Don’t waste the next four years dwelling on popularity and lies. Good luck with everything, I hope you remember my advice throughout the year and make the most of being a freshman.
Sincerely, Paige.

Dear Freshy,
As a former freshman I will say that in 9th grade the main difference is all of the tests! Tests in this grade for midterms and even finals are horrific! One other negative in this grade would be that we don’t get to go to lunch as early, but that’s minor! Another negative is the fact that you are at the bottom of the food chain in the high school after being on the top from Jr. High! The positive definitely overcome the negative though!
Some positives are the fact that we rarely have a lot of homework. It’s not that we don’t it’s the fact that you get plenty of time to finish it either in class or in a study hall. Another positive is all of the organizations the 9th grade has to offer. For instance, Key Club is a lot of fun and being in the Sr. High Student Council is also exciting! There are so many other things that go on during the 9th grade, pep rallies, fun teachers, and lots of fooling around!
Sincerely,
Brooke

Dear Freshmen,
You will see it’s a lot easier than what most think and a lot harder than you thought. Trust me I know I went through it three times and finally I got all the way this year; I passed. Most of you are 13 or 14. I’m 17 and just passed the 9th grade. I hope you never do what I did. It’s a lot easier to just do what you got to do.
Some of the lessons will be boring and you won’t want to do them but just dig your feet in and deal with it, it’s not that bad and you’ll be happy when you do. Some of the teachers are cool some are not. They all are there to help you. So take it and run with it and just get though school or you’ll never be successful. Most of the time when teachers get mad at you it’s because you’re falling off track. Good luck with your freshman year!
From,
Josh

Dear Freshy,
There are so many advantages and disadvantes of being a freshman. One advantage is you get to be in all the pep rallies and everything. One disadvantage is that you still don’t get too have all the advantages the seniors have.
One advantage about being a freshman is you get to be in pep rallies and you get to have field day with the seniors. You get to do a lot more than the younger grades. In eight grade you didn’t get to do all the fun activities or you didn’t get to go to all these assembly’s with the seniors. When you’re in ninth grade your one step closer to being a senior.
One Disadvantage is that you still don’t get to have all the advantages the seniors do. Half of the sights in the school library you go on are still blocked. Another disadvantage is that you can’t fail a subject or you will half to take that subject again next year because you need it in order to graduate.
Sincerely Jasmine H.

Dear freshy,
Being a freshman can be fun but it can also be a bore. You have to do blogs which I think is fun especially the freewrites when you write the freewrites you can so them about anything. But sometimes you have to do things you really don’t like. The best thing ever is the teacher she’s a great teacher.
If you have any problems at home they will talk to you about it if you need.
All the teachers are nice to everybody unless you don’t do anything. In science you do projects like boat float and mouse trap racer. In English you do a video project. In civics you do a project on the many departments the state has. In health you do a total of four projects which aren’t hard.
Sincerely,
Hope Ann

Dear Freshy,
As a current and soon to be former Freshman I have a lot of advice for you all that are coming into the 9th Grade. I've have good times and bad as a Freshman, more good than bad.
As a 9th grader you need to be neat and organized. You can't have you locker a mess and expect to get a desent grade. You need to do your homework on time and make sure you have it with you when you need it. You can't be asking to go to your locker everyday. You always need to come prepared because some teachers may not hand out pencils and so on. It is always good to try and strike a relationship with your teachers because it may just help you out in the end. If your teacher dislikes you for one reason or another they may not be inclined to help you in your time of need. It isn't supposed to work like that but in todays atmosphere it does.
This is all the advice I have to give right now but if you have any other questions or concerns about moving up to 9th Grade, just post a comment!
Sincerly,
Kelsey

Dear Freshman,
You’re now going to encounter both the positives and negatives of ninth grade. Ninth grade gives you the chance to take part in exciting activities such the talent show, field days, varsity sports, pep rallies, etc. One thing you should really do is just get involved. Start now. Join Student Council and Key Club; they’re amazing to be a part of. It’ll make your high school experience very enjoyable.
Also, you hear about the whole discrimination against freshman I know, but I didn’t find it a big deal at all. Don’t even worry about it.
One thing I can’t stress more is to never get behind in your work. Ninth grade isn’t the time to start slacking off in school. You must stay focused and just do the work. Seriously, who feels like doing homework and projects? Just do them. Missing even one homework, project, or doing awful on a test can do your grade more harm than you may think.
I wish all of you the best of luck! Have fun and do well.
Sincerely,
Rachel

Dear Freshy,
The best part about being freshmen is you are one year closer to being out of school. Another great thing about ninth grade is the field trips you get to choose out of three amusements parks if that is what your student officers decide from and they consist of Hershey, Dorney, and Six flags. We went to Dorney Park. I would recommend Dorney or Hershey because both of them have great rides. The best part of Dorney was the three roller coasters the talon, hydra, and the steel force. As for Hershey the best thrill rides are Great BearStorm RunnerFahrenheitLightning Racer. Every class is easy if you do your work. The only class you should not fall behind in is English. English is far by the worst class in the whole ninth grade. Health and Civics are the easiest classes in ninth grade. If you fall behind you can easily catch up in those classes.Civics is the best class in ninth grade if you have it for the hour so you better look forward for that class. If you have health for the hour two of you class in the six day rotation are study halls for an hour. So these are some of the ups and downs for ninth grade.
Sincerely, Dakota S

Dear back freckle,
There are many things you need to know to succeed as freshmen. However if you are organized and focused you will be fine. I don’t recommend slacking off because then you are stressed out at the end of the year when you should be relaxing. Sports are a given, play them especially wrestling. If you’re a busy person then you’ll be golden and will prevail. Work out, nobody likes being out of shape.
The teachers are nice as long as you do your work. Study for test to pass. Don’t be obnoxious otherwise you’ll be sitting in the dean of student’s office. And always keep it nice or neutral.
Sincerely (an upper classman),
Colby M

Dear new freshmen,
How do you think being a freshman will be different from 8th grade? Here are some of the good times you will have and some of the bad times. Some of the good things of being a freshman is that you don’t really have a lot of homework. One other good thing is that you have a lot more time to get your work done. One last thing that’s good about 9th grade is that you get to pick your own classes and you doesn’t have to have classes made up for you.
Some of the bad things about being a freshman is that you have to take a lot of tests. Also, being a freshman you are at the bottom of high school. Another bad thing is that you have a lot of responsibility to get you work handed in on time. Also the teachers don’t keep mentioning that you have to get your work handed in. They tell you once and you have to get it done. That goes back to the responsibility part.
Sincerely,
A freshmen
Kyle

Dear Freshy,
Freshman year way more fun and exciting then the Jr. High! You get to to do more things, like go to homecoming, you get to be in Key Club, and many other clubs! I recommend Key Club because it's very fun and you get to help others! You get to do gifts for giving, adopt a classroom and many other fun things! I did adopt a classroom and it was so much fun! It made my day seeing all the little kids giggling and smiling!
Also being a freshman is great because you get to have a greater variety of classes! Like this year I did reading skills, math skills, and writing skills! They were all great and helped me greatly! Plus all the teachers are really nice and funny! Especially Mr. Hein the Civics teacher! He will always make you have a laugh in his class! Also, same with Mr. Bart, one of the math teachers! Have fun this year and try hard, but also most importantly good luck!!
Sincerely, Brittany A

Dear Freshy,
So you’ve all made it to the actual High School. No more Jr. High School stuff. Well, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. You’re about to have a lot of classes that you might like, and that you might not like. A lot of teachers that will push you to the point where you think that they don’t like you, well, it’s not hard if you look past that. What they do, they do to prepare you for the world. To quote Red Forman from That 70’s Show “If you let your guard down, it’ll kick you right in the butt”. And this sentence couldn’t me more true (Of course, I’ve edited it to be school appropriate), even if it was from a comedic show.
Ninth is hard, if you don’t know what you’re doing. You’re going to be expected to know the difference between many things, be it Shakespearian words (Which you might know some of already from Mrs. Michalek), or the regular English language. English class has to be one of the hardest out there (unless you’re good at it, unlike I was). I struggled a lot with the Annotations you’re going to have to do for a lot of the books Miss. Transue is going to ask you to do. Ranging from 3-6 annotations per page, or chapter, of a book you’ll get.
But, that’s just the stuff in between the good stuff. Now that you’re in Ninth, you get to do a lot more. Pep Rallies, Better Field Day, awesome Field Trips, and all you need do, is talk to your class officers. This is what their there for. Make no suggestions, have no fun. For a Field trip this year (2011), I went to Dourny Park, got sun burnt, and road a lot of Roller Costars. And maybe you will too, or maybe you’ll go to another choice I had to vote for, Hershey Park. Or, maybe Six Flags. Who knows, but you never will, if you don’t talk to them.
See ya in the Lunch Room,
Robert

Dear Freshie,
Well, I suppose if you are reading this, then you must be one of Miss Transue's new freshmen English students. Which also means that I'm a sophmore. Wow, the time seems to go by fast doesn't it? I hope that your freshmen year is an amazing experience, and I hope you get to have lots of fun and you don't end up left behind.
One of the best things about freshmen year is the fact that you get to pick some of your own classes. You are now finally starting to become in charge with what you do with your life in terms of education. Another great thing about freshmen year is the fact that you'll find that your classmates are more mature. If you were constantly made fun of because you weren't an athlete or anything, don't worry, most of that will be gone. I know that's how it was for me. However, freshmen year can be a little difficult. You got to get use to the work and balance your life with the school-work. Which of course, some of you have already done, and I congratulate you and say keep it up. Trust me, you'll still be needing that for a few more years.
In order to make your life a little more eaiser than mine was in my freshmen year, take these tips into consideration. Tip #1 Don't fall behind, be sure you do the work when it is assigned to you. Otherwise you'll end up paying for it in some way or another. Tip #2 Study, that's an important thing. You're at that age when everything won't come naturally to you. Studying will help, I know it's been told to you a million times, but trust me when I say it helps. I could have done a lot better in my freshmen year if I took the time to study. Tip #3 Be serious when it comes to your work, but also don't get too caught up. Try and enjoy life as well. You must be able to find a balance between the two. If you can do that, you are off to a great start. If you can do these things, I'm sure that you'll have an easier year. Tip #4 If a romantic relationship is getting in the way of your work, then you had better break it up or find a way to work it out so that your schoolwork will be more important. Crushes and romantic relationships come and go, but your grades are with you forever. They tell the world how good you are and how worthy of a job you are. Don't let a crush get in the way of that.
Then, I suppose that's it. I hope that your year goes great and I hope that you have an amazing time. I also hope that you had a good summer. Keep your mind wide open, your strength renewed, your heart steadfast, and your spirit refreshed.
Best of luck,
Justin C.

Dear Freshy,
I’m just going to talk to you for just a minute. I'mm going to describe how easy it is to pass 9th grade. First, you listen to every one of your teachers, as they will make your life easier to pass.
Secondly, you must treat all of your classmates with respect. You're entering 9th grade, time to grow up.
Third, you must pay attention to your teachers when in class. They will show you how do your homework. Also in math if you have Mr. Garges you must listen to him show you the lesson. That takes all period but it’s worth every minute, because it makes you less stressed and because you know how to do your homework when you go to do it that night. I was one of those people who don’t do homework, just slack off the first two marking periods, and then expected to just make it up later. You definitely have to just do the homework. And come to think of it, I wish I did it because it is so easy to do. But I didn’t feel like doing.
It’s a big change coming from 8th grade up to 9th grade, it might not seem it and it might seem like they are slamming you with work, but they are not. The teachers really teach well. 9th grade is a fun year, and it’s nice to go to all the prep rallies, but you have to earn going there. The teachers are all nice and great teachers, and don’t get me started on Mr. Hein's class. A word of advice for his class is show up on time and you will have a good time.
Last thing is don’t fail Mrs. Farrs class, (health) it’s so easy and you don’t want to have to take it your senior year with a bunch of 9th grade students, because you would just set yourself up for that one.
Thanks,

Dear Freshman,
Prepare for your first year of Senior High. One thing I can say is don't fret it. It really isn't all that bad. For the most part you just have a follow some simple guidelines and you'll do alright. First make sure you always get your notes and are prepared. If your not well than that's your problem. Just listen to your teachers, trust me they know best. The final important thing: do your work. If you get behind a few days in work you just may be sleeping in all of your classes until the next chapter. Once you get behind it is hard to get back in the motion.
It isn't all bad though. Ninth grade also has some perks. You get to go to the Senior High talent show and field day. You can join Key Club which I would really recommend. Also your sports for the most part are now varsity and junior varsity so you can play some real quality games. And last but not least your one more year closer to graduation.
As the french say: Au revior
Sincerely Zack M.

Dear freshman,
Being a freshman has many advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages is finally being in high school. That’s a good feeling. Also, being able to play high school sports is an advantage. Although you may or may not make the varsity team, it's still a really good time. Freshman year is relativly easy so just do your best and enjoy it!
Some of the disadvantages to being a freshman are going from being the oldest around, to being the under dogs and being not as “important” as the older kids. The older grades get top priority over you for basically everything. It kinda stinks but its just the way life goes. They have seniority. So, just respect it and don’t try to argue with it. Have a good year!
Sincerely,
Alex

Dear Freshy,
Being a freshman is very fun and exciting but there are some things you should look out for.It is nothing too bad just do your work and stay on the teachers good side and you will make it through the year with minimal emotional scarring. One of the top things is to watch out for Miss Transue. She has what she calls her spider sense for teachers. She will just appear out of nowhere and catch you in the middle of just about anything you should not be doing.I just call it bad timing and plain creepy.Another thing she will make you stand up and do jumping jacks if you do not participate. One last thing about Miss Transue if she tells you to do something then just say “Yes Miss Transue”and do it no back talk.Mr. Hein he may seem like a big joker but even he needs to be serious sometimes.Mr. Woolcock nothing to major just do the lab work and you will do fine.Mrs. Farr’s class is pretty easy but do well because she does not do summer school. Also it will be pretty embarrassing to walk into her class as a junior surrounded by a bunch of freshman. Those of you who get stuck with Mr. Delano for math good luck.He can be a very interesting individual but not always a very good teacher.Just remember to have fun and pay attention to your teachers and you will make it through just fine.
Good Luck,
Zach S.

Dear Freshy
Look there is a lot of things you’ll need to know before you enter into deeper water of the high school. Also this is the most difficult part of your life because even though you are new. You will have to act like a young adult like your 8th grade teachers are trying to tell you. There are things you are going to need to know, like in English you’ll have to do these blogs like every week. Trust me they may seem easy and blow of able but take it from a guy who knows if you blow them off you’ll fall for sure.
Ok well that’s all I'm going to tell you because the rest is for you to decide and learn and trust me its going to be fun to watch. Have fun exploring and meeting your teachers bye for now.
From Brandon

Dear Freshy,
Freshman year is one of the years that you will remember most. You have a lot of fun times and you get more freedom now that you are in high school. In the end freshman year isn’t one of the hardest grades as long as you do your homework, are prepared, and organized.
Some good things about being a freshman is you get more freedom. But in this grade a lot of teachers don’t have the work you missed if you were absent prepared for you. You have to go up to them and figure out what you missed.
You also have to keep up with your homework. Homework in this grade isn’t just five points here and there. In some classes homework makes up your entire grade.
Be organized and prepared for class. Many teachers don’t give you pencils or pens if you didn’t bring one to class, it is your responsibility.
Grades really start to matter in ninth grade. This year really won’t be that hard for you if you are prepared, organized, and do your homework. It is a really fun, hope you have an awesome year!
Good Luck!
Margie

Dear Freshy,
Well, you made it this far! You made it to high school! congratulations! want your prize? Some advise to help you threw the year.
First off, DO YOUR WORK. trust me, you have no clue how much easier the school year is going to be when you go and actually do the work.
Second, keep your self organized. if you fallow the first rule, but not organized you might forget your work and get a zero instead of a one hundred.
ok by now your saying "yea yea I know this already" but how many of you actually follow this advise?
third, don't get behind. with these teachers, they wont exactly take loads of pity for you missing a day.
fourth, don't let it all get to your head. Your a freshman, you'll always get downgraded at least once for being that. don't worry, some day you'll be a senior (we hope)
fifth, stick with your friends. friends always help one another if they are true friends. just don't cheat off each other on the homework, that won't teach you any thing. Pretty pointless if you ask me.
I think I told you plenty. I'm not going to make you a hand book for your freshman year. Make it your best, it was my best year. so just live you life!
-Shanice

Dear Freshman,
Freshman year is very fun. In this grade you can actually say that you are in high school and that you’re no longer a little kid. Now you can go to the older kid activities and not deal with the younger grades. Now you can go to prep rallies, field day with the upperclassmen, the talent show which lasts like 10 times longer than your old talent show. If you do your work in this grade it won’t just be easier but it will be fun too. Now your life really starts so, show them what you’ve got and show them how mature you are. Make the teachers know, make the upperclassmen know that you are ready to be in high school.
You’re finally in high school. This year there is no time for slacking off. All of the teachers give you lots of work to do and whatever you do, do not miss any of it. As a freshman you have to keep up with homework, studying, and not annoying the teachers. Last year grades really didn’t matter, well this year is pretty much the start of colleges seeing what you can do. The teachers will be hard on you and may get on your nerves but, they only do that because they want you to pass. In English especially do every blog Miss. Transue assigns you because they are a huge part of your grade. Just to warn you the older grades will not treat you well at all so, show them what a freshman really is. Do not take anything that they say. They will be extremely rude to you. Good luck!
Sincerely,
Emily
