My report on a Famous New Zealander William Hamilton

Introduction

Sir William Hamilton was famous for engineering. His famous invention was the jet boat.

His Early Years

Sir William Hamilton’s nickname was Bill or Billy. Billy grew up on a farm, he was born 1899 in the South Island. He taught himself how to swim and dive and he made a raft out of oil drums and timber. He knew the dangers of rafting in the deep water. Later he built a canoe making the sails out of an old sheet using his mother’s sewing machine and the bit you sit on out of bamboo.

Engineering

He thought about how to make a boat which would come upstream and back again. Billy’s dream was to make a boat with a jet engine. But he invented a large rotary scoop for digging up heavy loads of earth.
By 1953 Billy had developed his most famous invention which was the jet propelled engine for a boat which is now called the Hamilton Jet Boat.
He had a factory which produced jet engines that were used all over the world for jet sprint boats, high speed ferries, custom patrols, ambulance and police patrol boats.

Sir William Hamilton made lots of inventions, his famous invention was the Jet Boat.
