Good Day 6/7 Dragons
A terrible natural disaster has rocked our world. The earthquake in Haiti is a hot topic lately. Many people’s lives as they know it has taken a tremendous change. It is times like this that we often sit back and reflect how easily life can change, especially how little control we have. It is also times like these that make me realize how amazing people can be and how supportive human nature is. The world seems to be united for a single cause, helping those in need in Haiti. What have you been thinking about since this earthquake occurred? Do you feel the need to help out, or has it made you think of how precious life can be? Have you followed the news, or do you know little about this incident?
Assignment #3: In 6 complete sentences write what you know about the Haiti earthquake, be sure to include your opinions, feelings, and reactions to it. Remember to write in Word first, spell check and save your document as “Blog Assignment 3”. Then copy your paragraph, click “articles” on your blog, paste your paragraph into the text box, add the title “Assignment 3” in the title box, check the publishing box, and click the save button.

Happy Monday Grade 6/7s!
From the time I was a little girl I always knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. My mom always tells me the story that when she or other grown-ups would ask me what I wanted to do when I grew up, I would always say; “I want to be a Mommy”. I remember that for a short time when I was a preteen or early teenager I changed my mind and would say that I wanted to be a motorcycle mechanic. Yes, at one time, your Ms. Wickes was very much into motorcycles; however, as it turned out, I wasn’t much into mechanics. Growing up it never occurred to me that one day I would want to be a teacher. It wasn’t until I was a young adult and I had reached my goal of being a mom that I also decided that I wanted to be a teacher. So far, I have reached both of my career goals, I am a mom and a teacher and I am very happy.
Before you begin Assignment #2 make sure you check my comments and your mark for Assignment #1.
Assignment #2 – You are to write a paragraph with a minimum of 6 complete sentences explaining and describing what you would like to be when you grow up. Remember to write in Word first, spell check and save your document as “Blog Assignment 2”. Then copy your paragraph, click “articles” on you blog, paste your paragraph into the text box, add the title “Assignment 2” in the title box, check the publishing box, and click the save button.

Grade 5/6 and Grade 6 Dragons – New Year’s Resolutions
It is the start of a new year and many people are making New Year’s Resolutions or new goals for themselves. One goal that I have for myself this year is to get more exercise. To do this I am going to start walking to school instead of driving my car. I would also like to set my alarm 15 minutes earlier so that I have some time to exercise on my elliptic machine. Another resolution I have made for this year is to drink less pop. I really like to drink pop and even though I drink diet pop it is still not good for you. To achieve this goal I am going to make myself drink at least 1 glass of water for every glass of pop that I drink. I am also going to buy less pop so then I will have less of it in the house to drink. These are my New Year’s Resolutions for 2010 and I am going to try really hard to reach my goals.
Assignment #6 – Blog about at least 2 of your own New Year’s Resolutions and how you plan to reach each of your goals. Make sure you write in Word first and then copy and paste into articles on your blog. Make Assignment #6 the title of your blog.

Grade 5/6 and 6 Dragons:
Well so far you have learned how to design your blog, post a title, post a summary about yourself, and post an article to your blog. The last bit of information you need to know how to become a real blogger is to comment on other people’s posts. This is what we will be doing today. I will also show you how to make and upload an avatar.
The whole idea of being able to comment on other people’s blogs is to strike up a conversation, to share ideas, and to express you opinion. When you comment on someone else’s blog you must remember to be respectful. You can disagree with them by stating your opinion and why you feel that way, but you must not put down other people’s ideas and expressions or “trash talk”.
Avatars are representations of yourself. My avatar is in the top right hand corner of my blog and is a cartoon picture of me (or something like me). Your avatars do not need to look like you, but they must be appropriate for school.
Assignment #3 – you will view and comment on at least 3 other blogs from any of the students listed in any of the 3 classes on the side of my blog. Each comment will need to be at least 1 full sentence (cool blog or awesome blog does not cut it!). You will only be given 1 class to complete this assignment. (To comment you click on comment, click on add a comment, add your name in the appropriate box, add your comment in the appropriate box, prove you are human, and click submit. I will approve as soon as possible)
Assignment #4 - You will create and upload an avatar for your blog. Use 1 of the 3 sites I have linked for you to the left (it says avatar maker) and create an avatar. Right click your finished avatar and save into your pictures (call it avatar1, if you make more than 1 then avatar2 and so on). Next go to your control panel, scroll down to image, click browse and find your avatar picture, and lastly click upload. I will approve as soon as I can.
Have Fun!

Welcome Grade 6/7 Dragons!
Well I can finally say welcome to the blog Grade 6/7s. I am glad to finally have you added to the blog. These next 2 weeks before Christmas will be spent setting up your blogs (the design, title, and your summary) and creating avatars. After the Christmas break we will be using our blogs mostly as online journals.
So your job for today is to design your blog background, create a title for your blog, and to complete a summary about yourself. I will show you how to do all of this in class.
Remember, for confidentiality reasons and to protect yourself and your privacy we will not be entering our own or anybody else’s full and/or real name on the blog.
Happy Blogging 6/7 Dragons!

Grade 5/6 Dragons:
Today I will be showing you how to post your paragraphs from last week to the blog. This was your first blogging assignment. We are also going to work on Assignment #2 for our blog, my hope is that you finish it today, but you may have some time to work on it during Thursday’s class.
Assignment #2: You are to write 3-5 sentences (in Word first) about activities you like to do in winter. As all good writers do, use proper English (not texting lingo), make sure to spell check, and read over your sentences to make sure they make sense. Save these sentences in Word as “Blogging Assignment 2”. You will then need to copy and paste your sentences and post them on your blog, your title for this article will be Blogging Assignment 2. Remember when you post you click on article, paste the sentences into the section provided, and make sure you check off publish and then save.
