My picture book reflection:
Bike Safety: To be safe on the roads and my bike I learnt I had to: Put on bright clothing so cars can see me, watch out for car doors opening and to stay on the left side of the road.

Picture Book: I then had to use my understandings of bike safety and write a picture book story that included some aspects of bike safety.

Illustrations: I also had to learn about illustrations – I carried out a survey about illustrations in picture books.
I found out that: Most picture books had hand draw pictures some picture books with drawings had photographs to make them a bit more realistic, and the most number of illustrations took up the whole page.

I then learnt and practised some techniques for illustrating picture books and included some of these in my picture book such as: Shadow art, collage, using magazine and newspaper clippings to make people and we made people on bikes with the clippings to.

To make my picture book interactive, I embedded links within my story and finally I entered it into the Feet First competition.

Our school won a Highly Commended Certificate and some picture books for our Digital Journey Picture Book stories.

Sir William Hamilton

Introduction
Sir William Hamilton was famous for inventing lots of things, including the jet boat.

Early Years
Sir William Hamilton was born 1899 and died 1978. William was popularly known as Bill Hamilton or Billy. When William was young he was a farm boy. He was independent and self reliant so he was always looking for things to do by himself. He also taught himself to swim and dive. Plus he made his own raft of oil drums and timber. As a young man he began an interest in motor racing. The one’s William designed went faster because they were built with streamlined bodies.

Hamilton Jet Boat
In 1953 he had developed his most famous invention, the jet propeller for boats! There are used all over the world for jet sprint boats, high speed ferries, police controlled boats, custom patrols, ambulances, passenger services, fishing fleets, even tourist trips.

Some other Inventions
William also invented a huge rotary scoop for digging up big scoopfuls of earth. He also invented the famous gondola lifts. Just after WW2, he started to design a range of bulldozers and loaders, even chairlifts.

Summary
Sir William Hamilton was such a great inventor he invented a lot of things we still use today.

TC

Article posted June 6, 2012 at 10:03 PM GMT • comment • Reads 117

I have a cat called TC (stands for Top Cat). She is a tabby cat so when she curls up in a super fluffy ball of supper fluff she looks like a big lump of pitch dark fur. Also she has tree green eyes.

TC has the personality of an absolutely sleepless grandma, grumpy, grouchy and lazy.

As TC doesn’t like much, here’s a few I listed. One is Bev, (my caregiver), birds (got sick from one), people being rough with her (she scratches). But on the other hand she likes Mum, me, dad and Alex, really getting on my nerves, waking dad up in… the middle of the night and lying around.
TC really enjoys going inside, outside lots. When we kick her out at night, you can hear her go BOOM! BOOM! Against the window chasing moths, lounging around and being a moggy.

I think her ambition (goal) is to get in the way of absolutely everything (no exceptions) we do. Even though TC is a pain most of the time, she’s still the best cat ever.

Yesterday Room 22 were practising our dance. We are dancing to “We’re All in This Together” from High School Musical. Whaea Susan thought it was Mrs Harington’s best one. My favourite dance move was the disco point. I am excited. I have to wear a white tee-shirt and red pants. I stand next to Rebecca. The classes that are in our group are Rooms 17, 22, 23, 27, 18 and 26.

Today is my first day at Athletics. Athletics is like gymnastics. But it is a place where you exercise. I am looking forward to running. You have to wear black shorts and a white singlet.

Burma Trail.

On Friday Room 22 did the Burma Trail in Waitawa Bush. We did it with blindfolds. There was a rope to lead us. I had to go under some trees. My partner was Kody, he was a very good partner. The reason why we did it was to get along with each other. I was scared when I was blindfolded because I couldn’t see.

On Friday Room 22 went on a day camp. We did the Low Wire Challenge. First on the Low Wire Challenge, we swung on a rope to get past the munching crocodiles. Then we balanced on wire and held ropes. There were catchers to keep us safe. Then we went back to our tents.

Kiwi.

I am a Kiwi. I am endangered because Stoats eat me. My beak can dig down into the ground and feel everything moving around to find worms. My mate protects my eggs by placing bits of twigs and leaves to hide it.
