It's been a busy place in our classroom. We've tackled 2 feet of snow, book reports and musical auditions. We've worked on multiplication in our last math unit. Now we our experimenting with displacement of objects to figure out their volume. Our class is collecting data and then graphing the data to identify any patterns. In literacy, we continue to identify main idea. Now we're making inferences to helps us think deeper while reading. The key to a good inference is collecting evidence within text to connect to our scheme. Our colonies study will come to a close soon. In science we're starting weather and had a great opportunity to have Chicago Meteorologist Ginger Zee visited our school to talk about forecasting. Please check out our assignments and leave a comment or two for the students :)

Our weather was crazy this week. We had thindersnow, which is something I've never experienced before. There were bangs and flashes while the wind blow over 50 mph. It was a seriously impressive storm.

Our Week in Review: February 21st

Article posted January 21, 2011 at 08:22 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 3139

Our class was busy this shortened week. Math class was consumed by multiplication. We look at patterns when multiplying by tens, hundreds, thousands...We also learned how to use all-partial strategy to solve multiplication problems, but found compact math still the best way to solve a problem. We did a lot of research and reading on the 13 American colonies. We finished talking about Jamestown and moved on to researching the 13 colonies. Students researched basic facts about their colony and created a Google earth over lay. The overlay can be found below. We also worked on the comprehension strategy of predicting. Students made predictions, revised them and then rejected or confirmed them in various types of articles/stories. Finally re revised the topic of stranger danger and refreshed our understandings of what to do. It was a good week over all and hopefully a great weekend with a BEARS WIN!!
