Canterbburry Earthquake

Article posted September 20, 2010 at 01:12 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1519

The Canterbury earthquake was 30 km from Christchurch city but only 10 km underground which means it was a shallow one, but it did a lot of damage.
On Saturday 4th September there was a bad, bad earthquake. Water pipes have broken and power lines cracked. It’s just awful.
Oh, and has anybody heard of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe? Well Dean’s Homestead house was the house that the kids were filmed in. That house was 130 years old until today. Plus more than 40 000 buildings were damaged. The good thing was that nobody got killed.
Canterbury University students got spades and shovelled up mud.
Who has sympathy? I definitely know that I do. Anyway I hope a donation will help.
Engineers have put stickers on shops, buildings, even people’s homes. Red means dangerous, yellow means it needs some fixing and green means safe. And now most of Christchurch is probably red stickered. Because there have been so many aftershocks there are more cracks in the roads.

New Zealand

Article posted August 2, 2010 at 11:30 PM GMT • comment • Reads 604

New Zealand is a small country in the south Pacific Ocean.
Lake Taupo is the biggest volcano in New Zealand. It once erupted 1800 years ago. Waikato is the longest river in New Zealand. Did you know Mount Cook is the tallest mountain in New Zealand? It is 3764 metres high.
Also we are quite famous for kiwifruit and other crops. New Zealand has one of the biggest dairy industries in the world.
Our main sports players are the All Blacks and the All Whites. The World Rowing Championships are at Lake Karapiro later on this year.
Kiwis, fantails, kereru and many more are our native birds. Many of them don’t fly.
Our population is four million people in New Zealand. Our capital is Wellington. One in four people live in Auckland.
Although New Zealand is small we have a big variety in birds, meat and plants.

Lucy in the night

Article posted July 28, 2010 at 11:52 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 502

Lucy is a brown bear who lives with her Mum and twin brother. She loves birds and playing in the green grass. But her favourite thing to do is to play ‘catch the stars’. Every night she looks up at the dark, blue sky and she jumps up and down trying to catch the bright yellow stars. But they are too far away. She asks her friends the birds to fly up and get a star for her. But they say they only fly in the day time. It is too dark for them to fly at night. Lucy is sad that she can’t reach the stars. But she has had so much practice at jumping that she wins the high jump competition at the Brown Bear Sports Day.

Responsibility goal

Article posted May 12, 2010 at 11:36 PM GMT • comment • Reads 647

Hi my goal is to bring my homework back to school each Friday. I really have a problem with that.
-----------------------------------------------
Barbara, think about these questions:
1) Are you doing your homework and forgetting to bring in back?
2) Are you not doing your homework so you have nothing to bring back?
It's really important to your learning that you do your homework. A little time on it each night will lead to lots of learning over a term and a year.

Everybody evacuate the beach – there’s been a massive earthquake in Chile. On Sunday there was an earthquake and now that has made a Tsunami. Over 700 people died. The sea levels went up and down but in the end there was no tsunami. Now that I’ve got to say is the most luckiest town in New Zealand. Anyway Congratulations and Good Luck.

Cassidy

Article posted March 1, 2010 at 09:37 PM GMT • comment (3) • Reads 650

Cassidy is the best friend I've ever had.
We are just like sisters except we are not sadly but it would be really cool if we were.
She is sometimes annoying but we can handle it.
We have had some dealings in the past but we're over it. We have so much fun together but you have to wait till my next story.

Rock Climbing

Article posted December 10, 2009 at 09:27 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1048

Oh my gosh! Miss Knight look at those walls. I don’t even know if anyone can climb that. Look how tall and big it is. In fact for myself I don’t even think that I can get to the top of any of the walls. Well if you use those muscles then you might get to the top. That is true. After all it doesn’t look so hard.
Okay Room 4 line up in two lines so you get your harness on quicker and then we can get this thing started. The people who had to go up first were: Hayley, Berber, Fyfe, Lilli, Kate, Georgia, Logan and Nicole because their parents were here.
It was finally our turn. I was nervous I wouldn’t make it to the top but I didn’t even think it mattered really. This is so fun climbing.
Then it was nearly time to go back to school. After half an hour it was sadly time to go. We all wanted to stay but we couldn’t. We took off our harness, got packed and into our groups then we all left. I had to ring my mum to pick me up then we went home.

MONSTER STORY

Article posted November 24, 2009 at 08:39 PM GMT • comment • Reads 688

There once was a girl called Fern and she was a dainty little mouse. She lived with her sisters and each day, one by one, they went out to get their food and always at the same time, 12:30. Fern went out to get lunch for her sisters and herself.

She turned the corner and froze in fear when she saw a large face right in front of her. The creature looked like a monster. It was huge and hairy. Two large, yellow eyes stared at her. It had large pointed ears that twitched and sharp teeth with fangs on each side. The beast bared its teeth and took a step forward.

Fern in a very terrified way took a big step back then ran through the monsters legs and grabbed the corn chips then sprinted back to the hole. The sisters were in shock when they heard the story. Never ever let the younger one go out but at least she was safe and her sisters were very proud of her. Anyway they opened the brand new packed of corn chips and nibbled on them.

It took them months to eat the corn chips and the months turned into years. They were all happy that no one got hurt. From now on the three little girls lived happily ever after.
