Yesterday there was a Harley -Davidson motor-bike rally and about 80 bikes came whizzing past our drive-way. It was a sunny day and their paint jobs looked awesome. In the middle of the group there was a Triumph. All of them tooted and waved to all of us. Our family sat on our neigbour's fence with him. Len is a keen motorbike man, and so are Grandad and my Dad.
If you don't know what a HOG is, it the name for the "Harley -Davidson Owners Group"

Dairy Products are food made from milk. Cows eat grass to make milk. The grass travels throughout the bloodstream and into the udder. Some people in the country still do hand milking. Machine milking is much easier. It takes only five minutes.
First the farmer puts the suction cups on the teats, and then the machine sucks the milk from the udder. It only takes about five minutes to suck the milk out of the udder.
The tanker trucks take the milk to the factory. The tankers insulate the milk to keep it cool. Once the milk is in the factory they pasteurize the milk. That means that they quickly heat it, then quickly cool it. They do that to kill germs and bacteria. Dairy products are, cream, milk, cheese, butter, ice-cream, and yoghurt. These things get processed.
Dairy products are one of the main things produced in New Zealand.

Ahhh! It’s shaking. Go, go, go.
On Saturday 4th of September in Christchurch there was an earthquake that was a scale 7.1 on the Richter scale! Man that would be scary ! Most pipes were broken. More than 100 000 buildings are damaged and 350 fell down. So far there have been 158 aftershocks. The biggest aftershock is 5.8 on the Richter scale. So far there have been no deaths, two serious injuries and lots of cuts and broken bones.
The engineers put stickers on buildings. Children are jumping in the cracks in the road. I think that is bad.
One university student set up a Facebook page and got heaps of university students to clean the mud and sand on the ground.

New Zealand is a small island country in the south Pacific Ocean.
New Zealand is made of two main islands and many small islands. Lake Taupo is a volcano and a lake. The Southern Alps is heaps of mountains. The biggest mountain is Mount Cook. Going to the North Island the Waikato River is the biggest in NZ (New Zealand).
New Zealand is one of the biggest dairy farming countries. We also get money from crops and tourists (visitors) plus wool, meat and L &P.
Our sports are cricket, rugby (our team is the All Blacks), soccer (our team is the All Whites), netball and watersports at beaches, lakes and rivers. The World Rowing Championships 2010 will be held in New Zealand!
We have no native mammals except bats. But we have lots of native birds. Many don’t fly. Our national bird is the kiwi plus our people are called that too (no, we are not birds).
Our population is 4 million. One in four people live in Auckland (our biggest city). Most of our people live in towns or cities. Our capital city is Wellington.
Although New Zealand is a small country it has a lot of variety with its plants, birds, landscape and people.

Once upon a time there was a girl called Isabella. She had a secret life as a spy. One day she was playing in the park when her spy pad beeped. A spy pad is a gadget that is 1000 gadgets in one cool machine. It had a mission:
Alert – for the Eyes of Isabella
100 000 000 000 has been stolen
from the Guatemala Bank.
So Isabella picked up her robot dog with laser eyes and ran to her spy vehicle. She flew to Guatemala and got to the bank. The bank is half destroyed. She runs and she finds the robber and tries to catch him. But he runs. After 10 minutes she catches him. The mission is solved, or is it?
The next day he broke out of prison and came back to her with a tranquilizer and shot her. Ten hours passed and she woke up. She managed handcuff him 20 minutes later. He was found in the bank vault next door. He was trying to rob the bank but Isabella caught him. She saw him as she ran past.
Then the mission is history.

Our family went to Waitete Bay. It is north of Coromandel. We had 2 days of gales and storms, but still Dad, Mac and I went down to the beach in the worst possible weather. Mac went swimming until he was purple!!The rest was sunny and we loved it. We hit stones with wood . We picked up bags of rubbish too. We found giant oyster fossils in the rocks and I found one the size of my thumb nail. It was on a loose rock and I took it home. We had yummy fish and chips at Barbara's house.

On Saturday my family went to the Hamilton Zoo.
A cappachin monkey came right up to the glass and showed us his teeth, and then poked out his tongue. I think it was a friendly gesture ..... he looked like he was smiling.
The Sumatran tiger was 3m away from the glass, sleeping in the sun. I have never seen him that close before, he usually hides.
My favourite animals are monkeys.

Grandma and I have been ordering seeds for next spring. We order some new things every year. This year we have ordered some "cat grass". Cats eat it and like to sleep on it. We are going to give our cat Princess a patch of garden with her own grass.
Miss Knight would you like some seed to make a patch for your cat Molly?

My family and I have started finding geo-caches. It is like a treasure hunt but you need an e-trex which is a GPS unit.
You join the club on-line and then it gives you the co-ordinates where the treasure is. There are 4565 hidden in NZ, and over 1,000,000 in the world.
We have found 4 so far, so we will be busy for a while.

We’d better check the tracking tunnels. Oh those nasty bees. I think we should tell the owner then he can knock it down. The mesh is safe and look out for those bees when you go to Maungatautari people. OK we have had enough of those bees haven’t we. Anyway I was talking about the fence. It is safe. It has small mesh like in picture below. There is a cage so people can get in but pests can’t. Mrs Collins got her cork and jar out of her bag and spat on it and rubbed the cork on it. We saw a kaka feeding on the birdseeds. The man was feeding the green birds and the five kaka and the mother kaka fed all three baby kaka. We saw a fantail.
The end. We went back to school.

We have a bus that is 9 metres long. We call it "Dragon Fly" because we like to flit around in it.
Grandad took all the seats out, it used to be a kindergarten bus in Japan. Then he built us a mobile home in it.
My brother and I have a bunkroom with 2 cupboards each for our books and my PSP, and our other treasures.
Also we have an oven, a fridge and a freezer, a TV, a DVD player, a table, a couch, a shower and a toilet.
We lived in it for a year, but now we live in the house. We really like to go away in it when ever we can.

I like to look at my Grandma's 35yr old Yates Gardening Guide. It was the 50th edition, and now she has the 77th edition, but I like the old one best. It has a picture the "cannon ball" watermelon, it is called that because of it's cannon ball appearance.

The 3 sisters are 3 huge rock formations on the west coast before New Plymouth. We went to see them in our bus with Grandma and Grandad in their bus. We parked by the river for 2 nights. We could only walk to see the rocks at low tide. we took our torches and looked inside some caves. We found heaps of crabs under rocks and we had a lot of fun.

It was a fine day when the best judo player, Finn, was in the judo hall. He is nice, skillful and confident. He is muscular and a black belt at judo.
When he had beaten his opponent he got out of the judo hall very tired. Little did he know that round the corner he would meet a superpower villain.
So back to the story. The champion judo player turned the corner and froze in fear when he saw a large face right in front of him. The creature looked like a monster. It was huge and hairy. Two large, yellow eyes stared at him. It had large pointed ears that twitched and sharp teeth with fangs on each side. The beast bared its teeth and took a step forward.
Finn was terrified. He ran to the judo hall and locked the door. After five hours of getting ready to fight the monster he opens the door and the monster came busting through the door. Finn fights the monster. Finn throws the monster into a concrete wall. The monster blew into 22 thousand monsters that were 2mm long! Finn got fire out of a stove and threw it at all the monsters and they died

On the 29th of December we were playing basketball. But Finn threw the ball too hard. It hit the pole and made it fall down. So we thought about what to do. Everyone but me gave up. We got the trolleys and put them at each end. They were heavy! Then we played a game. It was fun and hard. WE LOVE IT SO MUCH!

I have started my garden for the school garden competition. My theme this year is attracting bees and beneficial bugs. I have taken lots of photos as I go and I'm putting them in my garden diary. When I cleared the garden plants that were left from last year, 3 of the plants I kept and the rest I gave the chooks. The chooks loved the siverbeet best.

My 6 chooks are laying an egg each every day. I feed them pellets in the morning, and wheat in the afternoon. The wheat we get to sprout by keeping it wet in the hot house. It grows lots of roots and green sprouts in about 5 days, and the chooks love it. They come running to me when they see me bringing it.I love my chooks a lot.

Grandad built a plastic house so we can grow seeds for the garden, and for my cactus collection. I have a shelf just for me because I have 38 cactus. Grandma and I re-potted some, and they must be happy because they are flowering. When we re-pot them we have to wear gloves and use tongs because some have spikes 6cms long. Some have short spines that are soft and stick in your skin.

The Livewires live in the Waipa District in the North Island, New Zealand. The place where the Livewires live is a very peaceful place and there is not much traffic.
Ten Livewires live in town and 14 live on farms. In the Waipa District there are lots of dairy farms. Some farms are beef cattle, maize and kiwifruit. The two main towns are Kihikihi and Te Awamutu. The population is about 10 000.
Some milk goes to the Fonterra dairy factory and it gets turned into cheese, milk, yoghurt, ice-cream and cream.
Some small mountains are extinct volcanoes. They are Pirongia, Kakepuku and Maungatautari. Maungatautari is special because it is a bird sanctuary with a 50 km fence to stop pests such as stoats, ferrets, weasels.

We found a hedgehog under a tree in my chook pen. It was on it's back, stuck in the mud, and couldn't move. Grandma rolled it over, but it still couldn't move because it had so much mud stuck to it's back and feet. Grandad found a box and we made a nest out of hay. We gave it a drink and a piece of dog roll, and my little brother gave it 3 cars to play with!!! The mud is dry and is coming off, so today we are going to make it a safe little house under a tree. We know hedgehogs live there because we saw them bring their babies out last spring.

We saw a person in one of the cells, but it was a model of a man. We pretended we were locked up and Grandma looked at us through the lttle window. She let us out to go home for tea=http://=http://!!

Today Grandma and I worked in our garden. We planted sweetpea seeds that my cousin, Nicole, gave me for my birthday. Sweetpeas are my Nona's [Italian nana] favourite flowers and I will take some to her for a suprise when they flower. The packet says it will take up to 15 weeks for that to happen. The packet says it contains 15 seeds approximately, but it actually had 23!! We also tied up the raspberry canes ready for next spring. I couldn't believe what I saw ... there were still raspberries on, and I enjoyed them immensely. We found a just hatched Monarch butterfly. Her wings were still wet and she couldn't fly. We put her in the sun where the birds couldn't get her, and I am keeping an eye on her.

Last week I got a parcel from my Auntie Kim . It was the birthday present she said she would organize for me when she went home. The stickers are green and egg shaped and have a photo of me and my 6 chickens. The words say " Finn's Free Range Eggs ... Laid by Happy Hens" and they are cool. I feed my hens pellets in the morning and wheat in the afternoon. I love putting my arms into the bag of wheat because it feels like my hands are getting a massage!!!

In the holidays my friends came to play. Oscar and Zebedee, and their 2 sisters came to play for the day. We baked biscuits, and played lego and gormeties. It rained all day. We watched the movie Garfield. Oscar and Zeb came back the next day, and we played outside on the trampoline.

Lately I have been reading 'choose your own adventure' books. You read a bit of the story and then you have to choose what the characters should do next out of two options, and then you turn to that page, and carry on the story.

In the school holidays I went to soccer camp. It was very good because I scored the game winning goal in the semi-finals. Our team was called the brocollis because we were the green team. I won a silver, red and black skills ball, size 1, and a cool gear bag. This the third year I have been to soccer camp, and hopefully my brother can come next holidays.

I went to the star dome the day after my birthday. We learned that some stars can "live" for 100 million years. We also learned how to spot different constellations in the night sky. I now know how to find Orion and the Southern Cross.

Today is final game in the Washington Capitals vs The New York Rangers hockey series. I think Washington is going to win and Ovechkin is going to get the hat trick.

My birthday was fun. Grandma and Grandad, and Nonna and Nonno (my Italian grandparents) had tea with us. We had a picnic tea under the walnut tree in the paddock. I had chocolate birthday cake covered in M&M lollies. I got cool cards and presents like a watch and books about space, and a star wars figure.

I have started reading Extreme Adventures "Scorpion Sting" by Justin D'Ath. It is so cool. It is about brothers called Sam and Nathan and they are in a cave-in and Nathan gets a broken arm and leg and maybe even a rib. There are others books in the series including Spiderbite and Maneater.

My Auntie Kim has gone back to Geraldine. I had a great time with her, and I miss her already. Dad and Mum and I are going down to see her and Auntie Neenie in August. She thinks that their lambs, baby goats and chickens will be being born around that time.

I went to the Da Vinci Machines exhibition at the Hamilton Museum. It was about the inventions and designs of a genius. My favourite machine was the scorpion boat and the multiple gun ship. The multiple gun ship had 17 guns and they always fire all at once. The scorpion boat has a huge sickle that can cut the sails of enemy ships. I also learnt that the width of a persons out-stretched arms is the same as their height. I tested this theory with my Uncle Mark. IT WORKED!!

I have just started to play Age of Mythology on the computer. My favourite myth unit is a Hydra. I like the hydra because it can grow back its head +1 extra head.

Yesterday afternoon I helped do firewood with Grandad, Grandma and Dad. I helped put the logs in the wheelbarrow and stack them in the woodshed. Then Dad let me play Age of Mythology on the computer and I beat a cyclops!

On Tuesday night Dad and Mum took Mac and I on a hedgehog hunt in the dark with torches. We didn't find any because it was too cold. Grandma and Grandad suggested some hidey holes in the garden. We had lots and lots of fun!!

Mum and Dad gave me a start up loan to buy the chooks. I sell the eggs to Grandma, Mum and Auntie Liz. They are organic free-range eggs! I only eat the white part which is full of protein.

We had a picnic tea with juice and sausages and water. Grandma made a pie and a lemon cake. We had a great time!!
