Waking up in the morning, not being able to talk. If that happens to you, then that means you must be sick. Well there is one type of disease that does that to you, and that disease is called Parkinson’s disease. I’m pretty sure you hate being sick. Having this disease, you SHOULD hate being sick. Someone who has this disease will really wish they were dead.
Job of a Neurologist
I’m a neurologist (new-rol-le-gest). A neurologist is a doctor who specializes in the nervous system. A neurologist usually treats diseases that are found in the spinal cord or brain or nerves, I specialize in this one disease called Parkinson’s disease.
Nervous System
There are two parts of the nervous system. There is the PNS, which is the peripheral (pe-re-phe-ral) nervous system, and there is CNS, which stands for the central nervous system. The CNS consists of three parts: The brain, the spinal cord and the nerves. In the brain, there are three parts called the cerebrum, the cerebellum and the brainstem. The cerebrum is what controls your senses and your thinking. You cerebellum takes care of your movement and balance. And last of all your brainstem takes care of your involuntary (in-vo-lun-tery) actions such as your heart beat, breathing and digestion. The job of the spinal cord is to send the messages from the brain to the body and back, so basically the spinal cord is kind of like a messenger. In the PNS there are sensory nerve cells and motor nerve cells. SNC are your senses such as touch, hear, smell, taste and see. And MNC are what make your senses work.
Did you know that James Parkinson’s was the first to describe the Parkinson’s disease condition in his work, “An Essay on the Shaking Palsy?”
Symptoms
You can easily tell you have Parkinson’s (Par-ken-sons) disease, because you start shaking and your muscles become rigid. Your balance, coordination, and speed will decrease. Once you have Parkinson’s disease, you may also acquire dementia (Di-men-tia). Dementia is a mental condition that affects the brain so basically you forget almost everything you used to know and you will probably end up acting like a baby.
You may also experience swallowing difficulties and speaking problems. You may not like having Parkinson’s disease because you can’t really do anything anymore. You become dependent on other people.
Affecting the system
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive disease of the central nervous system. If a family member has Parkinson’s disease, he/she may pass it on. This disease is non-stop. When you get this disease, nerve cells in parts of the brain responsible for controlling body movements, will spread a chemical named dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is made by the brains organisms. Dopamine is found in the CNS and it’s also linked with the brains complex systems. Dopamine is critical to the way the brain controls our movements. If you don’t have enough, you can’t move: If you have too much, uncontrollable movements. It will also increase pulse and blood pressure. In Parkinson’s disease, the dopamine transmitting neurons die. The brains of people with Parkinson’s disease have almost no dopamine. They give the adult called L-DOPA that can be converted in the brain to dopamine. The neurotransmitters are what affect the system. But also it’s the medications. If you take a depressant, it will slow your system down. Which means the system won’t work as fast. In Parkinson’s disease some patients have to take stronger medications.
People whom get this Disease
Some researchers say that Parkinson’s disease is a genetic, but most people don’t know how you get it. The word genetic (Ge-ne-tic) means that it’s inherited from birth like from a parent. The cause could also be because of environmental pollutants. Environ-mental (En-vi-ro-mental) pollutants mean you can get it from pollutant. It is more usual for middle-aged and old people to get Parkinson’s disease, but it can also spread to young adults. Parkinson’s disease is a very common disease in fact it occurs all over the world! It is more likely for men to get it more than women, but still women get it too.
Did you know that Jean-Martin changed “Shaking Palsy” to “Parkinson’s disease?”
The Treatment
You can treat Parkinson’s disease, but you cannot cure it. You have to take medications such as Artane and Derynl. Artane (Ar-taane) can greatly reduce the shaking in your hand. Deprynl (Dep-re-nel) is supposed to slowdown the progression of the disease. Some Parkinson’s patients do not respond well to drug treatment, so they have to take stronger medication that may affect other systems.
Did you know that Michael J. Fox was the first actor to get Parkinson’s disease?
So now that you know about Parkinson’s disease, you can tell that you have it. You should know how to treat it and you should know how you get it and what this disease does to you. Ok well not all people die with this disease but some do! You should also know that you would not like to have this disease and I think you know why….

I had just come back from recess. As soon as I bring my lunch and sit down, I hear a voice saying “RM,”it was my teacher “Yes?” I answer. “Please take your lunch and go to Mrs. Branch’s office!”
I thought I was in trouble. “What could I have possibly done?” I said to myself. I couldn’t say a word. I took my stuff and went down. It was the first time I’ve ever done this. So when I got there, I asked Miss Mariane (the secretary) were the principal’s office is. “Right over there!” she says. “Thank you!” I reply with fear. I step inside with shock! I look around, I think to myself “I think I’m in the wrong place, why is this room so pretty?” All of the sudden, someone pops up and greets me with delight. “Hello RM!” she says with a voice like an angel! “Hello!” I answer, but this time, I wasn’t scared, I was confused. I couldn’t understand how come I’m not in trouble? Why did she tell me to come here? Is it because of my pretty red hair? So I decided to ask her. When she heard what I said, she turned around and looked at me and chuckled. “Oh little one,” “You’re not in trouble!” “It looks like your teacher didn’t explain it quite well!” “Huh?” I say “What was she talking about?” I think to myself. She continued and said “You’re here to have lunch with me and some other kids from different grade levels!” She said with a sweet smile on her face. “Oh!” I finally understand. “All this time I thought I was in trouble, when in fact I was sent here to eat my lunch and meet some students!” We both laughed then sat down to eat. Before we left, she got out a box. “What was in that box?” I wondered. She opened it up, and deep down there were ….COOKIES!!! Chocolate chip cookies! She gave each of us a tissue and said, “Pretend you are in a tea party, you should have good manners, so if you want a cookie, I will give you one, but you have to say thank you after I give you one!” So we did what she told us and those were the best cookies ever!
Now I know why my teacher sent me here, to have lunch and communicate with other students! And I think I was also sent here to meet the principal and get to know her better! This day was the best day ever!

When I was passing the gates of our school, I saw the principal and greeted her, and then I kept on walking.
While I was walking, I noticed that there was 15.00L.L. on the floor. I picked it up and looked at it. I wanted to take it but I didn’t because I am not a criminal, so instead I decided to ask the principal if it was hers or if she knew anybody who dropped them. I ran up to her as quick as possible and I told her “Ms. Branch,” “Is this your money?” I pulled out the 15.00 L.L. out of my pocket and showed them to her. “I found these over there on the floor!” I said. She looked at me in shock and said, “Oh my,” “That money must have fallen out of somebody’s wallet!” She took the money and told me, “Oh RM,” “What you did was very nice!” “Thank you for being honest and not taking that money!” “You’re welcome!” I said. I was proud of myself and for what I did.

It’s Important to Listen

It’s always good to listen to someone, why you may ask? Well if you do that means you have good listening skills and good listening skills lead to…..
Making you smarter
The first reason why listening is important in life is because if you listen to someone, you learn something, and learning makes you smarter! Let’s say your teacher is explaining something that is going to be on a test, you should listen or you’re going to get a bad grade! Or if your friends telling you a riddle, if you listen carefully, you might hear that exact same riddle again and you’ll know how to solve it because you listened to what your friend told you.
Helps you in life
The second reason why listening is important is because, what if you were watching a cooking show on T.V. and the show was teaching you how to bake a cake. Let’s say the next day your mom asks you to bake the same exact cake you saw on T.V the other day, if you remember all the steps he showed you, and then you will bake your mom one of the best cakes in the world! Now I’m not only saying this can only happen by watching a cooking show this can happen in anything!
Makes life easier
the last reason why I think and know that listening skills are important in life is because it makes life way easier than ever! How? You’re probably wondering right now. Well for example if your teacher is explaining a math problem and all of the sudden, when you grew up, you became a math teacher, if you listened to what the teacher said, than your life would be easier because you would know everything and it would be a piece of cake teaching.
I hope the next time anybody is talking to you, you should listen. If you don’t, than I don’t think life is going to be easy, and if you do…well you should know the answer to that by now!

The Dissection of the Heart

Students observed the dissection of the heart and lungs of a sheep, and dissected a sheep heart, as part of the science unit on the circulatory/cardiovascular system. Ms. Salem conducted the dissection.
You may think it’s disgusting, but I thought it was really cool! Some time ago, my teacher thought that it was time to dissect a heart since we had finished studying about the circulatory system. Mrs. Salem, a fifth grade teacher, came to our class and brought in the heart and lungs of a sheep, and she demonstrated how to dissect them!
At first I thought the dissection was really gross, but when I actually waited and saw the rest, it was the coolest thing I had ever seen in my whole life! Every time she opened up something like the heart or the lungs, she would pass it around, and we got to touch it! Like when she opened the heart, we saw what was inside and we saw some veins, and when she opened up the lungs, we saw the vessels and we got to touch them, they were really hard! During the dissection of the lungs, Mrs. Salem showed us how our lungs work. So she got the lungs and blew through the trachea, and suddenly, the lungs inflated! She tried it another time, she blew, and this time they inflated even more!!! Everybody started saying “wow!”and “cool!” I thought that was the best part, but in came the afternoon, when we got back from recess, and there were more hearts on the table! Miss Noshie placed us each in groups of four, and each group got one heart, some gloves, and scissors too because this time, we were going to do the dissection.
What I really hated was when we dissected in groups, because we actually got to do the dissecting, and we saw all the parts, we even had to cut some veins and codettas! What I thought was really disgusting, was when Miss Noshie got the scissors and took out all the de-oxygenated blood. It looked like black jello, even worse, black slime! It was so sticky and disgusting, but still I thought it was kind of cool. The last thing I thought was really something not cool was the smell. I really thought that the heart smelled horridness and really stinky, especially the blood!
I really thought the dissection was cool; I can’t wait to dissect the brain! I think it would be way cooler since its one of the most important organ in our body. But I don’t want to be a doctor because I have to do dissect things that I really don’t want to see!

I am from a school that says “Honesty is the best policy,” from a town, from buses to cars and from a country that likes to keep things clean. I am from a village from where people keep quiet, from a family of love and care. I am from scholastics, from ordering books once in a year, from “if she jumped out of a building you would to?”

Oxbow Lakes: A Crescent Moon on the Landscape
There are lakes that are quiet unusual in shape, they look like a crescent moon, and what’s more, you don’t find them everywhere. How do these lakes get these funny shapes?
Formation
These funny shaped lakes are called oxbow lakes. An oxbow lake is formed when a wide river slows down. The closer the river gets to the ocean, the flatter the landscape becomes and the slower the river flows. It sometimes begins to wind through the landscape in broad, looping curves called meanders. Some meanders will grow out into much broader loops than others. Then the neck of the loop may become very narrow as the loop grows. Where the flow is slow, the water deposits its sediments or remains of organisms and fine particles of rock and dirt that the river has torn away from its banks. Where the river flow is fast, it erodes those sediments. These sediments are deposited and start to block the entrance of an oxbow lake. An oxbow lake is formed by erosion and deposition. You may wonder what they are: erosion is when sediments get moved (movement of sediments) and deposition is when sediments settle down somewhere. The main agent of a formation of an oxbow lake is water because it’s formed in water as you can predict by the title. The water finally flows into the ocean. The old channel may cut off to an area of water forming oxbow lakes.
Slowing Down
Oxbow lakes are found where there is a strong river flow but at the same time a place where there is flat land, so basically they could be found anywhere! You can find lots of them in Lake Chicot.
Lake Chicot
The most famous oxbow lake is found in North America, Lake Chicot (located near Lake Village, Arkansas) it was originally part of the Mississippi River. And it is famous for its length.
In the future, I think that oxbow lakes are will continue to form. Because I think in the future all the land will get flat and water will run fast and more oxbow lakes will form!

Know honestly this was one of the best trips I have ever been to! You may wonder where and why I went there well I’ll gladly tell you…..
It was a nice Monday morning when I was packing and getting ready to go to Ramlieh and sleep there for a night. I was asked to pack a list of stuff which I did and I was also asked to wear a ski suit because before we were going to the resort in Ramlieh we were going to the Cedars and in the Cedars there was snow!!! But sadly not a lot, although we were able to build a snowman which I really enjoyed. Anyway after we had a bit of a snow hike we got some hot chocolate!! It was really hot so we had to be careful not to burn our tongues. And there was also a little treat to go along with the hot chocolate, it was like a chocolate cake and the wrapper was the pass to the bus!! So after the treat we went back to the bus and went to kind of a resort called AFDC. When we got there I just couldn’t believe my eyes when I got in.
It’s one of the most beautiful resorts you will ever go to! When I went inside I thought I was dreaming! Ok well it wasn’t that big of a thing, the entrance looked like a wooden house with a fireplace but I didn’t tell you about anything yet this is just the beginning.
Wait till you hear about the rooms! The main part about that living room is that it has something that I’m pretty sure almost everyone in the world loves…..a TV!!! Let’s move on and talk about the rooms. When I found out I was sharing a room with my best friend I couldn’t get more excited. The nice thing I liked was that we get to pick our own rooms! I picked room 31 best room ever (well the one I liked the most was 31 but who cares!) So anyway when I opened up the room……it was so amazing I have no words to describe it...ok maybe it was small but this isn’t a hotel remember! The coolest part I loved about the room which other resorts don’t have in the rooms (ok maybe some) were the bathrooms! I liked the fact that there were bathrooms in the rooms because ever since I went to a trip with the school I haven’t been to any place where there is a bathroom in the room! The room fit two people but there was only one room that could fit 3 or 4 people but we were only 2 people so we didn’t take the big room. Our room was like any other regular room. A closet and bed (in this case 2 beds) and well a place to put all the stuff you need! When we organized our room, we changed our clothes and went downstairs to have some activities.
After we had the activities it was time for lunch! Lunch there is like having lunch in a 5 star hotel!! The food was AMAZING! If everyone loved it I’m pretty sure you will too! I got to sit next to my friends and we talked and waited till they called on our table. A funny thing happened, since we were like the corner table the teacher called on every table except for OURS!! So my friend went up to him and told him that we still didn’t get served! We all laughed and the teacher was like “OH MY GOD I FORGOT YOU!!” And it also happened the next day!:P
One activity that was the scariest but also the most awesome activity ever was the rope course. Why you may ask well because you had to put on a suit with some chains and climb up the ladder when you get up you wait until the man tells you to go. The first course was a bit hard because you had to balance on one rope while holding on to get to the other side. (but don’t worry if you fall there are like chains holding you) When you get to the other side you wait until the man tells you to go. The second course was easy because it was like a normal bridge! When I got to the other side I waited and then went on the third course which I really didn’t like because you had to balance on two ropes and halfway through you have to put your feet on a log and continue till the end.
And finally the best part was the last course why well because you had to slide down the zip line!!! It was soooooo fun. You hold on to the rope and it will go down!!It’s the best experience I ever had!! So if you ever want to go somewhere for vacation I’m telling you from know AFDC Ramlieh is the place you want to go to!

Deir El Qamar

There are a lot of places I haven’t been to before, but one I have always wanted to go to is Deir El Qamar. Why? Well, because everybody keeps talking about it which makes me want to go there. Then suddenly on the first day of school, I found out that I was going to Deir El Qamar for the first time ever and what’s better, my class was going to sleep there!!
I was so excited, I couldn’t wait to get there, but here I was finally; in Deir El Qamar. It was full of nature. There were birds flying over me, lizards were crawling under me, ants and bees were all over the place. At first I was scared, because I HATE bee’s!! But staying in Deir El Qamar for two days, trust me, you’ll get used to it. At first I didn’t like the smell, because it was the smell of dog pooh, but that was before we got the camp ground. When we got to the camp ground, I looked around a bit. I took some photos, and then later I had a small snack and went and sat so that the field trip coordinators, Coach Wissam and Mr. Andre, could teach my class and I on how to pitch a tent. After a short explanation they told us, “Now go off and try to pitch your own tent. Call us if you need help!” I set off with my friends to pitch our tent. First I looked for a place that didn’t have a lot of rocks on the ground so that I could have a nice sleep without my back getting hurt. Then when I removed the left over rocks, I got the bag and the tools that my team needed to pitch a tent. I got out the inner tent and the tent poles and tried to get the tent in shape. My friend and I slowly slid the poles through the holes, but we had to be careful, because if one of us pulled we would take apart the poles. Deir El Qamar was very COLD so I stopped for a second and put on my jacket, then I continued. When I slid the poles in, I buckled the end of the poles too holes and slowly each girl held a pole from the bottom and pulled it up…….my team got up the inner tent!!!My friends, Maya, Alya, Suh-Hye, Yara and I all thought it was cool because it was the first time I had pitched a tent! Then I stopped them and said “OK guys cut it out. If we want to finish first we’ve got to work fast!”I got out the cover and threw it over the inner tent just in case it rained. We would be safe. Then once my team threw it over and fixed it, I fastened it to the buckle so that the cover wouldn’t fly off. And last but not least, I had to do something so that the tent itself wouldn’t move. Each girl dug 3 little holes and in each hole I put a stake. I attached the lines of the tent to the top of each stake.
When my team and I were done, I cleaned everything up and ran to coach Wissam screaming “WERE DONE!!!!” He looked at me as if he just heard a group of elephants trumpeting right through his ears. He cleared them out and said “Let me go see.” He came and saw our tent and said “I see you’ve done a good job. Let’s see if anyone needs help,”
“Does anyone need help because these girls right here can help you?” He asked around. Several students raised their hands, I went and helped them. Later we played games and had lunch. It was one of the best experiences ever! Because this was the first time I’ve ever camped. I felt so happy I wanted to show it by jumping up and down but I couldn’t because it would ruin all the fun so I kept it in me I hope I can do it again. Not only because it’s fun, but also because I learned new stuff and experienced nature for the first time especially with my friends. And that stuff will for sure help me in my daily life like pitching a tent with my friends!

There is a girl that can’t be hated. If anyone hated my friend, then they won’t be people living in this world! My friend is very smart and very kind, she is an unbelievable girl! She is just like a robot except she is a robot that is loveable, so if you had her, you would adore her and forget that she is a even a robot=http://! She will do anything if you asked her. One day, there was a girl named Sara. She was seven years old. She had a cat named Fluffy, and loved her so much!!! On that day, Sara went for a walk with Fluffy and they went to a friend’s house. Fluffy loved going with Sara anywhere.
On the way to her friend’s house, Fluffy wanted to stop for a break because she was tired. They took a break and got a drink.
Then they headed for a walk to the house.
When they got there, Fluffy didn't feel good at all=http:// Sara was worried, “Why is Fluffy looking that way?”She said.”I don't think I should be here .I should go to the vet.” said Sara. She asked her friend if she could barrow her car.
When Sara got to the vet, she told the vet that Fluffy wasn't feeling well and she told her that she didn't know why. The vet checked Fluffy and she said, “Did you feed her anything?”
Sara answered, “I only fed her juice. Is that bad?”
“YES “said the vet.
“I never knew that” said Sara.
”Well,” said the vet "This is what all owners have problems with, they just say, “I will never do it again” and it happens over and over again!” said the vet .Sara felt sorry for the vet and asked the nurse what should she do to make her cat feel better.
So she left the vet alone to rest and calm down. In the mean time she was waiting until the vet called her again.
“Look, I’m sorry; I didn’t want to give you a hard time. I never knew that. Can’t you give me another chance?”Sara said crying, Come on, Please!!” said Sara.
The vet said, “O.K, But if it happened again, trust me, I will not be here.” Sara felt miserable and she never wanted to go to that hospital EVER AGAIN=http://=http://
So she went home and watched some T.V and remembered something and started crying .She was sad.
The next day, she felt better and so did Fluffy. They went for a walk and this time Sara did not get Fluffy a drink and nothing bad happened to them! Sara said,” Oh, lucky day, nothing bad happened!” Until a huge storm came and Sara said” Except that ” Sara laughed and so did Fluffy. So from now on, Sara had good days and bad days, but she was always happy to have those days!!!
