This I Believe
Some people say that the point of life is making money, what job you have or maybe how many people that you know and how many people know you. Perhaps most people believe that life is about getting awards and being the best. I say that they are wrong.
I had just turned fifteen and was at the mall with my mom when I ran into a close friend from middle school, her name was Melissa. Having gone to different high schools I hadn’t seen her in a long time. I ran up to her and gave her a hug, my mom left to another store and we talked while she waited for her boyfriend to get back from the restroom. We quickly caught up, how hard freshman year was, the guys that we met, the friends that we had made, the old ones that we had lost. She introduced me to her little girl, though I doubt she remembers her daughter was only a few months old. I only talked to Melissa for about five minutes but within those five minutes I realized that I had no idea what the point of life was. Was life about having a family or making money? Maybe life was about meeting new people or changing the world? I sat there on that bench in the mall, watching Melissa her boyfriend and their three month old baby girl walking away. I sat there and I thought....
Life is about learning, learning from others mistakes, learning from your mistakes. Life is about doing your best not being the best, about making friends about making a difference.
Everyday is a new adventure; no two days are the same. Don't go through life wishing that you had done this and hoping for that. When you want something go for it, whether it is the cute guy across the street or your dream job. Hoping for this and wishing for that won't get you anywhere, today may be your last day on earth so make of it what you can. No don't party everyday and don't forget the goals that you have for when you "grow up" because everyone still has to "grow up". Growing Up is all you do through life, growing up to graduate high school, then college. Growing up to get married, having your dream job and a family. Growing up in no particular order but growing up none the less.
So when you finally "Grow Up" be sure that you didn't miss anything on the way, so that you can remember that summer that you grew up chasing butterflies and those school days growing up studying late nights. Grow Up to remember all your friends that you made all those who changed your life and all the people whose life you have changed. Grow up to remember the mistakes that you made, the goals that you met, the happiness that you have gained. Grow Up without any regrets.
