A Comment on Comments It's a love/hate relationship. My students love to get comments, but they hate listening to me try to help them write better comments. Fortunately, I've been reading a few of my favorite blogs and they have just what we need.

One of my favorite blogs is Remote Access written by Clarence Fisher. He is a Canadian teacher. Today he was talking with his class about the reasons for leaving comments in other people's blogs. They came up with this list.

1.) to encourage other people to write

2.) to let them know they have an audience for their writing

3.) to push them to think more deeply about an issue.

Mr. Fisher went on to say that most of the comments his students leave are types 1 and 2 from that list. I would say the same for my students.

Mr. Fischer then went on to quote another of my favorite bloggers, Anne Davis. He posted her list of prompts to help her students leave powerful comments for other bloggers. I invite you to use this list to help you leave powerful comments for our bloggers.
# This made me think about…….
# I wonder why…….
# Your writing made me form an opinion about…….
# This post is relevant because…….
# Your writing made me think that we should…….
# I wish I understood why…….
# This is important because…….
# Another thing to consider is…….
# I can relate to this…….
# This makes me think of…….
# I discovered…….
# I don’t understand…….
# I was reminded that…….
# I found myself wondering…….
