Background
The most serious threats facing the roughly 720 remaining mountain gorillas are habitat loss, hunting and poaching, disease, and war. Saving the mountain gorilla and its environment does much more than preserve this human-like animal for generations to come—it helps to preserve Earth’s biodiversity and to maintain the functions of ecosystems.
We will start a service-learning project to save the mountain gorilla and contribute to the wellness of the planet through the Owen and Mzee Foundation’s Save the Gorillas Campaign.
The goal of the Owen and Mzee Foundation is to "encourage children to participate in philanthropic activities through direct engagement." The Foundation has created the Save the Gorillas Campaign, and has funded a Clinton Global Initiative to protect the mountain gorillas.

1. 3 facts about mountain gorillas
2. 1 way in which you (as a student) can help to save this endangered animal!

Welcome to Room 213! On behalf of myself and my students, we would like to welcome you to our classroom and internet community. As you have just learned, this blog portal was designed to help our students learn via written communication. Not only will our students be able connect to one another, but we will break down the barriers of our classroom walls to connect with other students in the outside world. Now it is your turn to give "blogging" a try!
Follow the instructions below to type a message that only the members of the Room 213 team will be able to see. You can give a shout out to your individual student as well as the rest of the class. Feel free to comment on our classroom, any of the projects that we are working on, or simply type a "Best Wishes" message.

Welcome to Fourth Grade!
Hello there "Wild Things!" Welcome to blogging. You are going to have opportunities to write about school, your life, your feelings, your friends, and just about anything you wish. You will also be able to read and comment on other people's blogs. So you might connect with children in this class, in other schools in Elizabeth Forward, in other schools in the United States, and even with children in schools around the world. You might even make a few blog buddies this year!
Be sure to always be respectful and considerate in your comments. Enjoy!
