Hello my holiday makers!
I Hope you have been enjoying your break from school. I am getting geared up for our final term together with lots of exciting adventures ahead. I look forward to seeing you all bright and refreshed on Monday.
And as for adventures, as promised here is a picture of Miss Hunt paragliding! Thanks for your help in deciding what adventure I should pursue in Queenstown. I had a wonderful time and learnt lots of new and exciting things to try in the class from the conference I attended.
Enjoy your weekends and I will see you on Monday. Remember your homework books! :)

Congratulations Room 18. You have made a great start to your wearable art creations. Next week we need to work on keeping our space where we are working in a reasonably tidy condition. Check out the glogster I created of some of you busy being creative!

Did you know its Keep New Zealand Beautiful Clean up Week!
Our school has been taking part by cleaning up the streets around us. Room 18, along with the other Year 5 classes headed out this morning in the bright spring weather to help keep it clean!
We were very surprised at how much litter we found on just one side of the road! There was the usual, plastic, bottles, cigarette butts and then we found some unusual and unexpected items hidden under bushes. The most unexpected item was a water filter! Check our slide below to see Room 18 contributing to making our community a cleaner place.
Have a look at our slide below to see the clean up in action.

Room 18 read the book called Perseus the Gorgon Slayer by Jane O'Loughlin and Katharine Stafford. Then we created costumes from newspaper to represent the characters from the book.

Kia Ora Room 18. Time to get thinking about Wearable arts! We are off to the show next week. Our major focus will be on using a design process to create a piece of wearable art. This is my interpretation of what a design process is... please add comments stating what you think a design process would be? Is there anything to add or delete, or change?
If you want, follow this link and add a sticky about what you think a design process is?

We have been learning a selection of folk dances in the Year 5 team. Stay tuned for performance dates. In the mean time we have also explore some pasifika dances. We have started to create paint documents to show what we have learned about costumes. Here is a finished product by Liam and Hone.

A big thanks to Mrs Lowe from Area 11 (link on side bar) for her help in teaching me how to get wordle onto our blog articles. Room 18 has tried several times to do this and have been unsuccessful! Now I know what to do and I can teach Room 18. Yay. Here is a wordle using words from the Westbrook School Website, describing our school values.
