My Snake Story

Snake
“And here is the snake room “The guide explained. “We only have one snake at the moment and that is the Boa constrictor.” Anjan looked at the cage and became really interested. “And now we are going to the reptile house” said the guide. Anjan crouched beneath a bench near the cage. “This is a bad idea” he muttered to himself. He stood up and turned around, and automatically started walking towards the BIG GREEN BOA CONSTRICTOR, everything froze and he blacked out.
When Anjan woke up he was in a dark room. Suddenly he heard a voice. “Jonny the boys awake” Said an unknown voice. “Man that boy has an affinity for coming here” said Jonny

Anjan blacked out again! He woke up in his bed and thankfully he was back in his bedroom. He looked out his window and there was his usual alleyway. Wait, it wasn’t an alleyway - it was a jungle with snakes EVERYWHERE!!

The Mysterious Impenetrable Chrome

He briskly walked along the cold, dark deserted prison. It had been deserted many years ago and he was going to destroy it.

His cloak flew behind him as he started into a brisk jog. His devil stick started glowing a bright light as he exited the building. His suit became much more tighter and he began to choke. The Impenetrable Chrome was what he named himself, but will he survive?
He jumped up onto the building and looked down, there was the Masked Jedi….

The Impenetrable Chrome screamed with rage!
“I feel the force within me, and I will fight you to the end,” said the Masked Jedi bravely.
The Impenetrable Chrome jumped and fled into the darkness.
The Masked Jedi slowly walked along the road. “It was time,” he thought, “I need to go.”

10 days later..

A cruel laugh erupted from nowhere and hit the Impenetrable Chrome like a bullet. He stood up and flew towards the sound. He couldn’t believe his eyes, it was the Masked Jedi, he was huge!!! He checked his devil stick and charged.

The Masked Jedi screamed with laughter and lifted the Impenetrable Chrome up with his pinkie.
“That does not hurt me you fool, this is the end for you,” screamed the Masked Jedi cruelly.
The Impenetrable Chrome started to choke.
“Goodbye Impenetrable Chrome…” said the Masked Jedi.

The Impenetrable Chrome dropped to the ground like a bullet.

10 years passed..

The Mysterious Impenetrable Chrome’s body still lay at the same spot he had died.
A cough came from nowhere.
Footsteps could be heard.
A cloak could be seen flying……

Lion

Article posted October 12, 2010 at 10:15 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 180

Lion

The lions are a very rare species. They are a highly hunted animal and are close to extinction. Up to 10 lions die every day and approximately 5 are breed.

Appearance
The lion is the second largest animal in the world and weighs up to 16-180kg. it is about 300 metres in length and 90cm in height, it is surprisingly fast as it can run up to 55kph

It has a big shaggy mane around its head and its fur is a yellowish brown colour. The lion is classified as a panthero Leo (big cat).

Habitat
The lion is scattered around Southern African jungles and grasslands. They usually roam grassy plains a very few lions are found in Gur forests, that are in India.

Food
The lions catch their prey by pouncing on them. Their prey is antelopes, zebras, giraffes, warthogs, buffalos, deer, wilder beast and gazelles.

Females eat about 5kg worth of meat each day. Males eat 7kg.

Behaviour
Lions can sleep up to 20 hours a day, which leaves about 4 hours for lions to hunt.

They have around two babies a year and their cubs are blind when they are born. Cubs suck on milk until two months that is when they start eating meat.

Lions live in groups called prides. There are approximately 35 lions in a pride.

Lions can live up to 25 years.

Threat for the Lion
Lions have only one predator as they are strong and feisty. That predator is humans as they can use guns to kill lions easily. Lions are being hunted for their fur and meat. In the process their habitat is being destroyed. Humans are also killing lions as the think they are dangerous.

Comparison of lions in the wild and zoos

(Put graphs in)

As you can see the in the graphs there are 2500 lions left in the wild now but there were about 3500 left in the wild 20 years ago. There are 1600 lions left in zoos now but there were approximately 500 in zoos 20 years ago.

Summary
Lions are dying very quickly and there are only 2500 left in the wild. They will be extinct and we will regret it.

Get out of our House

This is my writing sample on the Skeleton Plot.

It was finally for sale, the old Victorian hall was up for grabs. But there was a twist to that hall, a twist that nobody knew. It has a staff of spooky, scary ghosts including a butler, and other servants.

The ghosts can’t leave the old, dusty hall, like a teleporter back into the hall in the middle of space, they languish in the hall. It is extremely important that they like the new owners. If they have to shair their hall, they feel that they should have a say at who moves in….

A series of dumb people visit the hall to see if they want to buy it. First a family comes in, but the ghosts frighten them off by dropping vases and galses around them. Next a head teacher comes in. The simpilest way to frighten ANYBODY. Make spooky noises, there ran the head teacher screaming to her husband scared, horrified, petrified.

Finally a young couple visit the hall. The ghosts were quite out of ideas because the couple are not scared at all!!! They bellow at the couple but it doesn’t work. Eventually after a long day, they make friends with the ghosts. The couple buy the hall. The ghosts take on their old jobs and help the couple to live happily in their new fantastic, awesome home.

The Phantom Coach

Article posted June 27, 2010 at 11:08 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 272

It happened 20 years ago in 1887. I was walking along a narrow, crunchy gravel road and became lost. It began to snow heavily. I was cold and desperate and was stumbling towards a faint light in the distance. It was a small snow topped cottage. I was given delicious food, drink and warm shelter. The owner of the house was strange, like a crazy poor guy in a filthy, smelly ally. He told me a story about something that had happened that very night three years earlier…

He told me that a mail coach had been travelling in a ferocious snow storm when the horses had slipped over like they had been it with a bullet in the middle of a battle. The two drivers and four men inside had died painfully. “Weird,” I muttered to myself. I looked outside; the weather looked as though it had cleared so I decided to set off.
It was still cold and I felt scared and frightened.

I remembered about what the man had said and felt a spine chilling sensation crawl up my neck. Time vanished as I languished in the cold dark street as the night became darker. I was stymied and didn’t know where to go. I was highly surprised when I saw the silhouette of the mail coach approaching me. I asked if I could get a ride, the men nodded without bothering to look at me. I could very faintly see the outline of three big, bulky men. I tried to make a conversation but none of the people listened.

I realised that there was something wrong and tried to get out, but I couldn’t…..No….this can’t be… NO!!!! I then clearly heard a horrifying scream and felt as I was flying through the air. I passed out…..

I woke up at home two longs days later. I had been found in a huge ferocious snowdrift exactly where the coach had crashed three years earlier. Nothing else was found there…

Well there you go, that is my story.

The Scarecrow

Article posted June 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 240

We have been developing our narrative writing by using a Skeleton Plot. We are given the 'bones' of a story and we then write a story based around these main parts. Enjoy reading my first skeleton plot.

The Hilton family is a lovely family who go to the countryside for the holidays. They set off in their clean, shiny KIA. As they approach the cottage, it is a beautiful sight. It is freshly painted; the trees tower over the KIA like a giant cascading waterfall of the Niagara Falls in Canada.

Rachel looks towards the farm next to the cottage and lets out a frightening gasp. There in the crop field is a lifeless scarecrow, its eyes lead into nothing. Its head is bulging out. Rachel turns pale.

They enter the dusty house and a fit of coughing erupts throughout the family. “What is this” complains Ben while coughing. Rachel sneaks out of the room and greedily, sneakily takes the cosiest room. Confused, frustrated, annoyed, Ben slumps and falls asleep in the living room. He awakes with a start, nobody is home. He is hungry so he walks over to the kitchen. Then it happens!!!! The phone rings. Ben picks it up.........The only sound he hears was heavy breathing. He hangs the phone up slowly. He looks around and starts feeling scared as if somebody was spying on him. His heart skips a beat as he realises that the horrifying scarecrow is gone from the paddock. He screams out loud. He languishes in the freezing living room awaiting his family’s arrival.

He becomes more frightened as he tries to turn on the 160 inch plasma TV but it wouldn’t do anything. There is a knock on the door. His eyes bulge with horror as he realises that there is nobody there. Ben tries to ring his mum’s mobile. It rings in his mum and dad’s bedroom, so he runs into it. The silhouette of the scarecrow looms over the window. Ben screamed as the scarecrow glared at him from the window. He falls to ground screaming in absolute horror. The phone rings. Ben shakily picks it up. All he hears is cruel laughing, as Ben screams for the last time............

My Tiger (popcorn holder)

We made a tiger out of cardboard when the girls in room 8 where gone to girls self defence day. It was tricky because there was allot of icky sticky glue, but it was really fun! First we had get 2 pieces of cardboard and we had to staple them together. We also had to cut out 4 feet 2 ears (our ears were made out of corrugated cardboard), and a nose. Our 2 pieces of cardboard were shaped like 2 circles. On our two pieces of cardboard we had black stripes (4 on each side). We also had a plain square piece of cardboard which we put our nose, eyes and ears on. On our eyes we had eyebrows (3 on each side). Our ears were attached to our eyes with selotape. Then we had to glue our piece of cardboard with our eyes and ears and nose on our 2 pieces of circle cardboard with double sided piece of sticky selotape. We also stuck on our 4 feet.

My Wildself

Crunch went the sharks as they eat the fish one by one. Bubbles popped every second. The poor fish got stung by the jelly fish as the fish swam like mad! Day turned to night and the sea creatures started to doze off to sleep. The brown damp moss sunk into the ground while fish were lurking around trying to find a place to hide from the sharks. The sea creatures were filled with terror as divers moved silently past. Just then a loud thump came from the top of the sea. It was the mighty Cocotoliet!!! Cocotoliet is a really greedy boy. He has got peacock feathers which look like freaky eyes. His eyes are light blue and Cocotoliet has black bat wings. He has an elephant trunk which blows every few hours and Cooctoliet has got octopus legs which are dark purple and pink. He has horns in his bushy hair and he has chimpanzee arms that wobble around. The fierce wind blows his chimpanzee ears out of his way. Cocotoliet’s t-shirt is half ripped so you would not like to go near him.

Down in a little village called Bosten, Cocotoiliet and Jeff are having some trouble! The darkness of the night made it hard for Cocotoliet and Jeff to see. As they ran from their rival, there was a book lying on the ground. Jeff recognised the book, it was the book that killed their mother and father. Cocotoliet read the book name out loud while they were running "The Maze of Bones." Cocotoliet and Jeff skidded to a halt as they found themselves underground! Right beside them was a black shadow. Slowly Jeff's eyelids opened and he realised he was in the hospital!!!

My holiday recount (independently)
It all started when we went wellington. Its about 2 hours from Parmestinorth! We had to get on a fairy to get the south island. My newphew came us so did there mum dad and brother oh and of course my mum dad and brother. So when we got of the fairy/boat we where in piction. we didnt stop at piction because we needed to go to Kaikura. We reached at Kaikura t at about 9:30pm. My nephew, me, newphes brother Karann, and my brother , Sebaj. stayed in the same room. next day we set off to Christchurch. As soon as we reached Christchurch we went to look for the Antartic center when we found it we went inside. There we found a boy named ET he was cute!! So we said “Would you like to come with us on our trip” he said yes please!! And so he came with us on the rest of the trip. In the Antarctic center we sound a room that you can feel how cold it is! Then we saw a room with penguins.

Holiday recount (reworked with teacher conferencing)
The Bungy jump
‘AAAAAAAAAAA’ I screamed as my brother shook the swinging bridge of NZ. My brother is a nerd, his hair is black and it shimmers in the light. 2 seconds later I was hanging off the bridge. In a click of a finger I was hanging off the bridge, I screamed so hard! One moment later my head was stuck in the water. Suddenly my head popped out and I swung onto land, unbuckled my bungy jumping belt which I had used for protection. It felt like my heart was pumping at the speed of light. And My legs were shaking as I was lying flat on the ground!

The Honeybee

Article posted November 8, 2008 at 08:48 AM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 623

IS
A honeybee is an introduced species. It was introduced to New Zealand in 1839. The honey bee was introduced to make honey. It is a yellow and gold flying insect.
HAS
The honey bee has three body parts which are the head, the thorax and the abdomen. It has a sting at the tip of its abdomen. The honeybee has a wasp waist which means the abdomen is joined with a bendy join so that it can move in small places. It has two eyes. The honey bee has 6 legs and see through wings that are attached to the thorax.

The queen bee is the biggest bee in the hive, then the drone bees and last of all the worker bees.
FOUND
The honey bee lives throughout New Zealand. The wild bees make their hives in hollow trees or in rocky crevices or caves.
DOES
There are up to 50,000 bees in a hive. The Queen bee is the only bee that can lay eggs. She lays up to 3000 eggs a day. Drones are males who mate with the queen. They usually die after they have mated with the queen. Worker bees are female bees who are the smallest bees in the hive. Worker bees live for up to 6 weeks. Worker bees collect nectar and pollen from flowering plants. Honey is made from the nectar and mouth juices of the worker bees. It takes up to 60 hours for a honey bee to make a teaspoon of honey. Bees pollinate our plants and the buzzing sounds are made by the bee flapping its wings 200 times a second.

The eggs are laid in a cell that is six-sided hexagon shaped. The cells are that shape so they can stack together. The queen bee lays the eggs then they hatch into larva. The workers feed the larva on honey. If they want to make a queen bee they feed the larva on royal jelly. When the larva turns to pupa the worker makes wax to seal the cell. Then the pupa turns into a bee. The bee has to chew its way out of the cell. Sometimes the worker bee helps to eat the wax.

When the hive is crowded the queen leaves with thousands of bees. This is called a swarm. The queen bee makes a new hive. The new queen bee takes over the old hive.

Bees numbers are declining. One reason is the accidental introduction of the Varroa mite to New Zealand. If all the bees die, who will pollinate our plants? How will we make honey?

The water was crashing like thunder in the dark sky. The seagulls were as loud as the children screaming on the beach. The wind was blowing like people whistling to each other.
The sand was as glittery as sparkles. The waves are curly like a hairdresser’s curling people’s hair. The sun was as blazing as me jumping into a fire. The Pohutukawa flowers were falling like snowflakes onto the dirt. I can feel the sun blazing on my body. It feels like I’m jumping into a fire. The sand is wriggling through my toes like ants crawling around me. The water is splashing onto my face like my brother spraying me with a hose.

It was new year. Fireworks were sparkling like stars. It was the biggest celebration I had ever seen. There was yellow, green, purple, blue and every sort of colour. The season finally was exploding!! It was really colourful. The food was scrumptious. It was like chocolate, vanilla and caramel The dessert was scrumdiddlyumptious.

My eyes are as brown as chocolate
My nose is as big as a giant’s foot
My ears are as big as a soccer field
My hair is as black as the night sky
My mouth is as wide as a banana
My smile is as shiny as a star.
