BMX-Camp

When I went to Tui Ridge Camp I had the best time of my life. The BMXing was the best! The track was as hard as a brick. I raced Myroslav and Quinn. Quinn was as slow as a snail and Myroslav was as quick as a tiger. In the first race I came second. In the Second race I came first because I cheated. I went as fast as a rocket launcher.
When we got to the BMX track, we adjusted the bikes to ur sizes. Then bang we were off. While I was racing I nearly crashed into the trees, that were on the side of the track. My front tyre went over the tyre barrier. After that I nearly crashed into more trees. The jumps were huge and high, the turns were really steep and sharp. I crashed heaps!

The Honeybee

Article posted November 8, 2008 at 08:34 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 398

IS
In 1839 the honey bee was brought to New Zealand to make honey. It is a yellow and orange flying insect.
HAS
The honey bee has three body parts, the head, thorax and abdomen. It has six legs and two eyes. It has a furry thorax and two antennae. The queen bee is the biggest of all the bees. The drones are smaller and the worker bees are the smallest.
FOUND
The honey bee is found throughout New Zealand in wooden hives that are brightly coloured and stacked on each other or in the wild they live in hollow trees, rocky crevices and caves.
DOES
There are up to 50,000 bees in a hive. The queen bee is the only bee that lays eggs. It lays up to 3000 eggs a day. Worker bees are female bees, they are the smallest bees in the hive. They live for six weeks, for three weeks in the hive and three weeks out looking for pollen and nectar. They turn it into honey for them and the other bees.

When the hive gets too crowded, the queen bee leaves with thousands of bees and a new queen takes over the hive.

Bee numbers in New Zealand are declining. One reason is the accidental introduction of the Varroa mite. Without honey bees, who would pollinate our plants?

Under the Pohutukawa Tree

The waves are crashing like a mad bull. The seagulls are flying around the Pohutukawa tree, screaming like a baby crying. The trees are crackling in the wind like lightning in the sky. I can see the waves getting softer and softer as they break onto the seashore. Ships look like they are going slower and slower as they sail past. The crabs are scuttling so fast you can hardly see them coming past. The children are playing happily in the sand like the birds singing happily in the trees. The Pohutukawa flowers are as red as a fire as they fall off the tree. The sun is blazing on my back like mad. The silky sand is as soft as a blanket. The wind is cooling me down faster and faster like a fan.

England vs Japan and America

Article posted March 27, 2008 at 10:15 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 368

Once a upon time there were two countries trying to take over England. The countries were Japan and America. The only reason was because when Japan or America had taken England they thought that someone from their countries would be King or Queen. But they were wrong. England could not be defeated, it was too hard.
