FRESHMEN:
For those of you who have not finished typing and posting your book reviews: finish them today.
Those who have finished should read and comment on at least two students' book reviews. All comments will be sent to me for review before posting, so be sure to be kind and constructive. Make a comment about the review or the book itself, but not the person who wrote the review.
Also, continue to personalize your pages!

Transcendentalist Aphorisms

Today, you will select an aphorism with which you can identify. The ones I have selected for you to peruse come from Emerson and Thoreau, two transcendentalist writers whose works we have read and anayzed in the past week. Choose the aphorism based either on what you like best or how it connects with your "Walden" experience.
Once you choose your aphorism, do the following:
- Copy and paste it into a Word document.
- Write the author's name after it (ie: Emerson or Thoreau).
- Copy the web page that contained your aphorism, and paste it on the line below your uoted statement.
- Explain the aphorism in your own words.
- Explain the significance of the aphorism to your own life--beliefs, experiences, etc. Be sure to go into some degree of detail here.
- Proofread and edit before posting your work into a new "article" on your blog.
Here are the web sites:
You will use this work as pre-writing for a longer portion of your "My Walden" essay.

Good morning!
Today, you will post the work from your in-class pre-write. If you finish early, you may personalize your blog or post another article.
Also, make sure to complete one (1) reading lesson before you leave the lab today.
Since you can access this site from home, I hope that you will consider posting articles while you are away on spring break. You could write about your vacation or your reading book, etc.
Regardless, have a wonderful spring break!

Today, you must type and post an entry for the Soundtrack of Your Life assignment. You have been adequately prepared for this in class and are expected to do good work here!
Complete any part of the following:
Topic #1—Explanation of yourself (One paragraph)
This paragraph is basically a brief autobiography:
· · Who are you?
· · Where are you from?
· · Where are you now? Etc. etc.
Topic #2—Explanation of this soundtrack (One paragraph)
This paragraph outlines your rationale or purpose in creating this soundtrack:
· · What is this album you have created?
· · Why are you completing it? (because it is an assignment is NOT an answer!)
· · What do you hope to get out of this project?
· · What do you see yourself doing with this later in life?
· · What goals did you have for creating it?
Topic #3—Explanation of each song on the soundtrack (One paragraph per song)
This section is made up of many smaller paragraphs. Song by song be sure to explain:
· · What is the name of the song and the artist?
· · Why is each song important to you?
· · How does each song connect to your life?
· · What does each song reveal about the kind of person you are and what you think is important in you life?
Topic #4—Final remarks and reflection on the soundtrack as a whole (One paragraph)
This paragraph is your conclusion in which you should thank your reader for taking the time to listen to your soundtrack and offer any final reflections upon this project as a whole.

Crucible Journal Topics

In detailed paragraphs that cite evidence from Act One of Arthur Miller's play, The Crucible, respond to at least two (2) of the following journal topics:
What do you think is more important: Order or Individual freedom? If order means that people must be imprisoned, but individual freedom means a threat to the greater society, then which should be allowed to occur? Explain.
Do you think that it is better to be ignorant or wise? Ignorant people can claim that they “had no idea,” while wise people have the burden of knowledge.
Why do people choose to commit cruel acts in the name of righteousness? That is, why do some people commit acts of violence and murder in the name of divine entities, such as God or Allah? Explain.
Is it more important to do what is right for oneself or for the greater community? In a society with strict rules for daily life and beliefs, can a person have his/her own individuality? If so, then how, and to what end? Explain.
Do you think that a person can be pious and worldly at the same time? Do you think that the struggle to be pious might make worldly objects more desirable than they may be otherwise (the old cliché goes, “you always want what you cannot have”)?
