Students are participating in two hour scheduled blocks to learn how to optimize their allotted seventy-five minutes on the North Carolina Writing test. The blog entries beginning today, February 23, 2006 are student reflections on this activity. They were asked to describe the activity, identify pros and cons, and share about any errors they are still struggling with. If you have advice for them, please add a comment to their blogs.

We have lots of exciting writing opportunities occuring on the Dolphin Team. There are various options for student connections to our current novel study Fever 1793. In science, the students are studying about the human body. There are some really neat RAFT's and creative selections involving the lungs and red blood cells. Be sure to check them out, and let us know what you think.

After studying the flow of blood through the body and heart, the students "became" a red blood cell and wrote a first person account of their exciting journey!

My students are reading SE Hinton's novel, The Outsiders. As an introduction to this novel, we participated in a lesson on identity groups and stereotypes. The students created blogs reflecting on this lesson. Another note, we are experiencing technical difficulties with the password to comment. If you would like to make a comment, try one of the four passwords: core 1, core 2, core 3, and core 4. Hopefully, the problem will be solved, and you will be able to make comments without a password. Check it out!

My students have been working on Hurricane reports. Their first blog entry is a reflection of what they are finding about hurricanes, personal experiences during hurricanes, or responding to a particular hurricane. Our next blog will be on Identity groups. Look for that in a few weeks. Enjoy!
