Where Does Our Water Come From? On Friday the 12th of March, Rooms 16,17 and 14 went on a trip to Baxendale Place, Headworx, because we are learning about water in our community.

They also had fresh water there. Our photographers were Rangiahu Newton, Chedon Owsley and Te Rawhiti Fenech.

When we got there, Mrs Quirke and Mijo told us to kneel down so we could be able to hear him, then he told us the ground rules. Those rules were follow the foot paths, don’t touch anything and he said if you hear an alarm follow me or move to the entrance of the building because the toxic chemicals would swell up our water system in our body.

After they explained the rules, all of the classes got split up into groups. We had a teacher or adult’s supervision and then we all went into the new ultra violet light plant and that’s the new pipes they put up. After that we also went into a big pipe room where they installed the pipes and those pipes carried all of the water.

They also had a beautiful, green waterfall and a water spring. We all had to split up into two groups because our whole group was too big. We went over to the eruption roof. It had water flowing under it. They built the roof to protect the stream from ash which was a problem when Ruapehu erupted. They had a forest next to the eruption roof. The forest also had a little stream which was coming out of the ground and was called an aquifer.

We moved on and people were saying, “Do you guys want some fresh spring water?” and we said, “Yes please,” using our manners and it was yummy.
Then we all walked down until we all reached the starting point. We got told to walk around this corner but we didn’t know what it was. We saw a sign just above the roof. It said “No 1Pump House”, so we went in and it had all of these old pumps from back in the old days. We were all amazed, even Mrs Hyde.

Then we all went back and Dylan from Room 17 said thank you for showing us around and we all hopped on the bus and came back to school.

That sounded like a very interesting and fun field trip. You did a nice job writing about it. Good job!

Best,
